Reflective Essay On The Difference Between Thanksgiving And Turkey
During Thanksgiving, mom makes food with turkey in it or just turkey. If we don't have any turkey we eat any other kind of food with meats in it and rice. We always have to include spicy food because it not only gives the food a better taste but my family and I usually like eating any kind of spicy food. My mom sometimes makes ponche de fruta for Thanksgiving, but she usually doesn't and just serves us soda. If my mom doesn't cook anything with a lot of meat, she makes pozole which has some meat or pork in it but it also had corn in it too.
During Christmas, my mom makes either pozole or tamales. This year she made pozole. It was really good and it had a good taste because my mom added a lot of red chiles. She either buys soda or makes ponche served hot, because of the weather we have during this time. We stay up until midnight and then we open our presents. Sometimes before its midnight, like around 8 or 9, we go to my aunts house for an hour or two and they give my family and I some presents which they want us to open early so we do. I sometimes make or buy cookies and give some to my cousins and my aunt. Then we go home around 10 or 11 and we stay up until midnight where we open out

My mom once again decides to cook. My brothers and I help her with the ponche as she makes chicken salad and pasta and rice and other food. She sometimes makes quesadillas, the way she was taught in El Salvador and she makes a lot of them that they don't fit in the oven anymore and we have to bake multiple breads separately for a long time. In the end, they end up tasting really good. We help keep an eye out for the food or we help her clean the house because she wants us to start off the New Year by living in a clean house. We stay up until midnight. We watch the countdown from New York on our TV and sometimes stay up until 2 am or we go to

A Christmas Tradition that the family has is to decorate the house all together (inside and out) and they all stay up together until the house is finished. Another tradition is that they have a big family dinner on Christmas Eve and the family stays up until midnight and each of them open one gift until the next day. A final tradition that this family has is their New Year’s tradition: on New Year’s Day, the family spends the whole day together and they play board games and watch movies as a…

Most eat the “Traditional Thanksgiving food.” One example is turkey and mashed potatoes, those are my personal favorite Thanksgiving food. We also get together with our big family, for us all of my Uncle and Aunt’s come and with all of them and all my cousins it can get overwhelming, but it’s always fun. I noticed how the Avila’s were making Tamales and I actually smirked because that’s what most Hispanic families do they bring in their culture and mix it in with other cultures. I like how some people don’t care about being different.…

Mexico’s eating habits and meal patterns differ significantly from those of Americans. Breakfast is between seven and ten; common foods are sweet breads, fruit, toast, and granola. Lunch is the meal of the day unlike in American where dinner is. Lunch normally takes place between one and four, it is used as the family meal. It consists of an appetizer, soup or salad, the main course: meat, rice and beans, and tortillas. For dinner they tend to eat lighter food items. Some dinner examples would be simple soups or al a carte items such as tacos.…

I am from the Island of Haiti with French and African ancestors. The Haitian culture is very much part of our family. Haitian food has a sense of the Creole that is a blend of influences. Mixed roots and spices. In our household, we don’t have a particular time that we eat or a specific diet. My mom and I do most of the cooking in our household. It does take a very long time to cook a meal because of how we prepare our meat. All of the meat is seasoned and left to marinate hours before it is cooked with a special mixture called Epise Blended vegetable and chicken flavored Maggi cube. We eat everything from Chicken, pork, beef, goat and seafood. Also, potatoes, rice, corn, beans, plantains. There is also a strong presence of tropical fruits…

But as we got older and my mom and dad split we began to want to stay with them during the holidays but they would always go their separate ways to have a “good time”. As time went on we never spent it all together we either spent it with my mom or dad but, it still wouldn't matter cuz ma oldest brother was in haiti. When i got to the end of eighth grade and my brother came back we had one of the most memorable christmas ever not because of presents cause there was none it was they way we spent the night. There was the usual family dinner but it was later at night because my mom worked in the morning after desert eryone was lazy so we left the chores and all went to watch tv without even noticing we were all laughing and sharing our personal lives with each other and after we all fell asleep together in the living room. My mom cares for my sister and me by cooking and serving dinner, enforcing house rules, and doing the bulk of laundry. On a usual day Mom would go to either Langenstein’s or Costco to buy dinner for the night, or she would have food in the fridge that she could prepare for us. I am grateful that she cooks meals for us instead of frozen meals and fast food. Also my mom enforces the house rules to look out for our well being like a curfew. As a night person I find the curfew to be challenging at times, but I know she just wants me to have ample rest. While my mom and sister take on most of the burden for indoor chores, I cut the grass and trim the hedges in our yard. My mom usually put the clothes in the washer and drier, but she forces us to do the folding.…

Thanksgiving. One of America’s most beloved holidays. I mean it is so important that we get a whole week of school off. For most people when they think about Thanksgiving, neither the words thanks nor giving comes up. It is turkey am I right? How would you feel if you showed up to a Thanksgiving meal and there was no turkey on the table. I mean could you even call that a “Thanksgiving” meal? This was the exact thinking process I was going through last Thanksgiving. However, we were not going to someone’s house for dinner. Our family was the one hosting the dinner.…

I always know it is Thanksgiving morning when I awake to the smell of the turkey roasting in the oven and the cinnamon apple spice tea brewing on the stove. The rest of the morning is spent helpingmy mom and grandmother cooking in our large open kitchen. Every year for as long as I can remember, my grandmother uses my Nana’s recipies when cooking the thick butter garlic mashed potatoes, homemade sweet red cranberry sauce, and the rich creamy dark gravy. On the other hand, my mom and I always cook the french green beans, sausage and bread stuffing, and also our homemade pumpkin pie together. While the women spend most of the early afternoon in the kitchen getting things ready, the men normally gather in the living room and watch sports or play a board game on the coffee table. It is a rule in our house that no man is allowed in the kitchen while we are cooking unless he is coming to help with dishes; otherwise the men eat all the food as it is being prepared.…
