Reflective Essay On Philadelphia
English 802 provided me with an opportunity to gain further insight with the city of Philadelphia while enhancing my writing abilities to perform at the collegiate level. Prior to this course I considered myself a fairly decent writer, but going through the writing process during this course I was able to identify certain issues with my writing and eventually reform them. I had no idea how urban environments interacted with their varied demographics, and how Philadelphia functioned as a city. Reading the course texts gave me a clear understanding of the gentrification process and how people interact within cities that act as concrete jungles. The texts inspired me to go in the city of Philadelphia and understand how various ethnic groups respond to the actions of each assembly. Writing about the misfortunes of people …show more content…
My sentences were reformatted to have an academic tone and organized to develop the ideas I wanted to portray. By the final essay, I was confident in my ability to create an argument and introduce it in a way that provided supportive evidence. Critically examining my essays strongly improved my understanding of aspects of the urban environment and structured my beliefs on concepts presented in the course. The process of writing can become tedious; however, being able to analyze my work created an idea of what I needed the reader to understand. This allowed me to structure my papers in an operative method. Clearly stating my ideas through comprehensible sentences makes my arguments able to be presented successfully. My word choice improved, my tone one was heightened, and ideas I formulated were fully analyzed. I sincerely believe that writing is the most important form of expression because it can be translated and understood by any culture for generations. Taking classes like English 802 are essential in being able to share ideas with the

From city to city, cultures, environments, and beliefs vary immensely. A city means more than simply “a large town.” For example, my own home of Dallastown, Pennsylvania differs drastically from the much larger city of Philadelphia. Where I grew up, the white population is the overwhelming majority; Philadelphia obviously differs in this category. Cities provide a haven of interesting people from conflicting ideologies, color, and financial statuses. My home’s landscape is regularly hilly and forested, whereas Philadelphia is full of skyscrapers, streets, and city-lights. Every town and city is unique in their own sense; landmarks, culture, music, and even transportation define what that place might stand for, or signify. I’ve visited numerous…

I was the oldest delegate in the Philadelphia Convention. Other than George Washington I was the best man in America. I was born into a poor family and became an inventor, scientist, diplomat and publisher. My career in public service was long, I serviced as an ambassador to England and France and I was also a Governor of Pennsylvania. I was a compromiser, I brought delegates together. I favored the strong national government that the United States had, I was a firm believer that the framers should trust the judgment of the people. Although I didn’t agree with everything in the constitution, I believe that no other convention would come up with a better document.…

High school had always been organized and simple complete with stepping stones to help students form their essays the way the teacher wanted. College gives the writer much more freedom with their work other than what’s expected from the collegiate, we are free to write in whatever fashion we please as long as it’s on track with the assignments. Being separated from the crutches of high school teachers and Jane Schaffer writing sheets doesn’t make it college more difficult just more mature. For example, college students use whatever fits them to organize their writing without the support or guidance of a stand-by teacher, and still create a supported argument with a good structural foundation. This is expected rather than re-approached, sharpened our back ground skills like spelling, formatting, and creating to prepare us for the argument style of writing done in college.…

The strongest piece of writing that I have done this quarter is my “Informative Essay” on truth about organic foods. There are many areas in this essay which makes me feel that this essay deems to be my best essay so far. Firstly, the outline and organization of my essay was apt for an Informative Essay, I had devoted the first paragraph for Introduction which had the summary of the information I wanted to present. The last paragraph had the Conclusion which wrapped up all the information provided in the essay and gave people a food for thought. Other paragraphs included the body of the Essay. Secondly, I had researched all the facts presented in the essay and verified that I had not made any assumptions, offensive statements or contradictions in my Essay. Finally, as a narrator I was careful not to include my own views or suggestions to diminish the facts presented in my Essay. I had learned to be a good writer from completing the assignment essays. I also learnt about the pre-writing invention strategies used for writing. I learned how to summarize, paraphrase, quote and cite by reading different passages. Now I am able to write reflective essays and peer-review essays of my friends. Brainstorming with my teacher and friends helped me to…

Some students are intimidated when given a writing assignment. Hopefully, the hints given in this essay will make it easier for students to get started on their own essays. Becoming fairly automatic about formatting a paper prevents too much time from being wasted “reinventing the wheel.” Using viable, trustworthy websites and resources for research will help writers supplement their own knowledge. Knowing how to organize these resources into a coherent bibliography will cap off the paper quite nicely. Using these “tricks of the trade” should help students concentrate on the composition of their papers, and not obsess on the minutiae.…
