The only way you can hold onto to them is to create something that you can see. All art forms invision this, even with the artechture of the supertower. They knew that people would see it and have opionions on what should have been done with the site so they created something that fitted everyones idea of how the space should be. By using art, light, water and making safety the top priorty incaase a future attack may occur. In kristys work I don’t belive it was ever made to be viewed in the public eye it’s just how It ended up due to the attention her photographs were reciving. As humans we have an urge to create a presence after a loss and that is what happens after the collapse of the twin towers, which changed the world forever. Could we imagine talking about other tragic natural disasters or terror events in the way we have approached 9/11? We have memorials for wars, etc but 9/11 was viewed in it’s own light in a different way for every person on this earth. It was the start of not being safe. The memorial was created not only for the lose to remind people we are still moving even after such tragic circumstances. Kristys work was created because of a personal tradgedy and it was expressed in that way. Through intermetide set ups all for the one shot she needed that had her vision for her indidual
