A skill area that I believe I have developed greatly since the start of the module is my communication skills. This is a skill that I have always had some sort of problem with due to my lack of confidence. It is for this reason that I felt very apprehensive in doing this module, yet was determined to overcome my apprehension. I have attempted many time in the past both outside of university and over my three years at university to work on my skill of communication. On many instances through group work and several presentations in front of my class, I have noticed an evident but gradual change in my confidence in communication. However, it is because of the immense importance of this skill to me for my future that I felt that I had not attained the level of confidence in my communication skills that I desire and need.…

While this is proven to be true, we all too often hear and read about the lack of communication skills healthcare providers posses when dealing with their patients. This leaves us wondering,…

Through reflecting on the topics discussed in module three, I have decided to focus my self-improvement plan on Adapting Interpersonal Skills from the Interpersonal Communication chapter. I have long known that my interpersonal skills are lacking. I often avoid small talk and, if not mission critical, any type of confrontation. I am usually so focused on what needs to be done that most interactions with those in my work center tend to be related only to the task at hand. The feedback provided by my peers is that until I get to know someone, I am “strictly business,” which makes it hard to build a supportive working relationship. Based on their feedback and my own self-reflection, I believe the interpersonal skills I need to strengthen the most are assertiveness and…

Last year was the most turbulent period of my life. I spent the whole of it in pubs drinking beer and gaming girls. I didn’t pass the baccalaureate exam, nor did I live up to my family’s expectations; I was the most disappointing and miserable member of my family. At first, they were looking after me and trying to guide me, but in the end, they forsook me and left me to myself. They started demeaning me and considering me as a burden who tarnished the family’s reputation, and who didn’t stick to the rules. Due to that, I almost committed suicide and ended my pathetic life. However, one day, everything has changed. I have turned from that pathetic family member to that person who everyone is proud of.…
