I had an initial appointment scheduled at the library and while I was in route to the library the client had sent me a text message stating that she had arrived at the library approximately 20 minutes early and was there waiting on me. I had responded to the client that I was approximately 5 minutes away and would be there as soon as I could be. I had arrived at the library and while I was walking into the library a client that I am familiar with arrived in her vehicle and verbally greeted me stating that she was picking up her children for an unsupervised visitation. The client proceeded to tell me that the children were supposed to be returning home on the following Tuesday after court according to the transition

The client had gotten out of the car and I noticed that she was “wobbly” and wasn’t walking straight. I spoke with the client away from the children and inquired if she was under the influence of something. The client first stated no then stated that she had received several prescription medications from the emergency room on this day. By this time, the new client that was waiting on me started texting me stating that she wasn’t going to continue waiting on me. I explained to the client that I had a crisis situation occurring and I would be in to meet with her as soon as I could. The client felt that she had been waiting for a long time although it was only 2:55 pm and our scheduled appointment time was 3:00 pm. I felt that the safety of the children and client that I was with at the immediate time was of upmost importance and I asked the client waiting to give me 10 minutes. She declined to do so and departed the library. My focus remained on the situation at hand. I had a mother who was attempting to put her children into a vehicle when she appeared to be under the influence of something. I told the mother that she was not able to take the children at the current

I discovered that she had appropriate medication for all of her diseases. She mentioned that she had been living with them for several years, even stating that she had asked her doctor about massage therapy. This week I did not go into the office because I was out of the state. I had informed Joan that I would be out on the 17th and 18th. I had emailed Joan the dates a week before I left as a gentle reminder. I plan to make these hours up by going in on Tuesdays and Mondays whenever I can. Because I was not in the office, I worked from home. I spent the week calling the 3rd precinct to get a hold of the arresting officers on my cases. I left voicemails and messages, but I never got a call back. I reread my cases and read my new cases as well. I called some LP officers, who not in the days I called. I also organized my VDF’s.…

Mary (changed name) was admitted with right cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and was now just waiting for residential placement. One of the side effects left over from her stroke was that she had a drop-foot for which she had a splint and a walking stick; she had declined to use a frame. Mary was one of the patients on my team so I was getting to know her quite well during my first two weeks on the ward. I was working with another patient when I saw Mary twist on her ankle and try to steady herself on her stick. This had the effect of spinning her round and she fell to the floor onto her left hip. I ran to help, she was in a lot of pain and slight shock, I called down the ward for help several members of staff came to help saying "do this" and "do that" all at the same time, I was quite over whelmed. Mary was rolled back and forth onto a sling, hoisted up and placed on her bed, all the while I was looking after her head, I did not know what else to do so I talked to her to calm her down, which was difficult due to all the commotion. On initial examination the senior nurse on duty said it looked like she had broken her femur, which was later confirmed. Her residential placement was cancelled and she was transferred to stepping hill.…

The first official session with my supervisor went well. This was the first time we would review my performance on the crisis line. Personally, I was apprehensive about our meeting, I felt I was doing a good job; however the observation team may have felt diffident. Our meeting was casual yet formal. Camie is a great supervisor, she is easy to talk with and very supportive. What I found strange in our first meeting I was preoccupied with what I may have done wrong. I did not consider what I may have done alright. This spoke to my personal view of myself and abilities. This thought process actually surprised me. My personal consultations went well; the mentors were complementary of my style and abilities. Yet, when I met with my supervisor,…
