Section 01: Introduction

1. Preface

Designer Belts Ltd. is a belt manufacturing company which has evolved from the old Boot and Shoe Industry. It is specialised in leather belt manufacturing in Bedfordshire. An Australian couple who bought the company six years ago are the present owners of the Designer Belts Ltd.

To record all the business activities they use a manual system which consist lots of disadvantages. Current manual system required great amount of paperwork. It can cause for errors and also it decreases the company’s productivity.

The management of Designer Belts Ltd. is willing to make the business process more effective and accurate. With that intention the management is concerning to computerize the current manual system.

As first step, Initial JAD workshop meeting was held in the boardroom of Designer Belts Ltd and all major parties was involved to carry out the processes of that workshop. As a result of the JAD workshop, different opinions were gathered from all departments and the different professional levels.

This initial business quality report was set up to provide a detailed description in requirement analysis of the Customer Order Processing System for Designer Belts Ltd. This report is mainly included Requirements with prioritisation, Requirements catalogues, Prototypes, The classes of users in development process, Class diagram and Use case diagrams.

This report will be handed over to the company’s managing director, Mr. B. Hudson.

2. Current system and the Drawbacks of the Current System

As mentioned above currently there is no automated data collection procedure. Customer details, Product details, Order details are entering manually.

1. Entering data manually takes more time to gather information and data process time is very high. As an example daily report generating process takes much more time because of the manual system.

2. Entering details manually can cause delays and errors, so its time consuming when there are changes to be made.

3. It increases storage space and cost for all printing papers.

4. No sufficient security for data stores. In case of any accident there is no way to keep backups.

5. It is difficult to make a single update without accessing and updating multiple files.

6. Without checking manually, there is no way to check stock levels. So more employees are needed for a simple business process.
