Radioactive material can be found in some products such as microwave ovens, x-ray machines, and radon gas. The most dangerous sources of radioactive material are nuclear weapons, and nuclear power plants if a critical failure takes places. Radioactive pollutants can have very harmful to the human body and the in environment, but they are fairly easy to contain if the proper measures are taken. Radioactive pollution can be defined as the emission of high-energy particles or radioactive substances in the form of radioactive waste into air, water or land due to human activities. Radioactive waste is usually the product of a nuclear process such as nuclear fission, which is extensively used in nuclear reactors , nuclear weapons and other nuclear fuel-cycles. The discharge of radioactive waste into the atmosphere is known as nuclear fallout. A nuclear fallout occurred in 1945 when the United States of America dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan people suffered from cancer and other radiation effects for five years. There are three major types of radioactive pollution continuous pollution, accidental pollution, and occasional pollution. continuous pollution exists in uranium mines, nuclear reactors, and test labs. where humans are under continuous exposure to radioactive contaminants. Accidental pollution exists during accidental exposure to radiation by virtue of equipment failure, radiation leak, and faulty protective equipment. occasional pollution exists during isolated experiments of test of nuclear substances. The fist reported effects of radioactive pollution was in the early 20th century when uranium miners suffered from skin burn and cancer. After the nuclear attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki the surviving population suffered from cancer and birth defects for generations.
