Radio-controlled Cars
Radio-controlled car
Radio-controlled (or R/C) cars are usually categorized as either "toy" or "hobby" grade. Remote control vehicles are usually of one of two types: control of a vehicle by radio transmission or by a wire connecting between the transmitter and car. This article focuses on the radio-controlled vehicle category, both toy and hobby grades.Cars are powered by various sources. Electric cars are powered by small but powerful electric motors and rechargeable nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, or lithium polymer cells. There are also brushed or brushless electric motors. Most fuel-powered models use glow plug engines, small internal combustion engines fueled by a special mixture of nitromethane, methanol, and oil (in most cases a blend of castor oil and synthetic oil). These are referred to as "nitro" cars. Recently, exceptionally large models have been introduced that are powered by small gasoline engines, similar to weedwhacker motors, which use a mix of oil and gasoline. Electric cars are generally considered easier for the novice to work with compared to fuel-driven models, but can be equally as complex at the higher budget and skill levels. In both of these categories, both on-road and off-road vehicles are available. Off-road models, which are built with fully-functional off-road suspensions, can be used on various types of terrain. In comparison, on-road cars, which generally have a limited or non-existent suspension, are strictly limited to smooth, paved surfaces.
Hobby-grade radio control
In recent years, hobby-grade "ready-to-run" (or "RTR") models have become available from every major manufacturer of radio-controlled cars, attracting many hobbyists who would otherwise have purchased a pre-assembled car (ARTR or Race-Roller). Vehicles of this type need little or no final assembly and in many cases, the bodies are shipped painted and trimmed, requiring little work from the owner before they can be used (other than purchasing and installing

The biggest difference between gasoline and electric vehicles is the engine. Instead of an internal combustion engine the electric vehicle has an electric motor. Also instead of gasoline as fuel an electric vehicle uses batteries for energy. Finally, instead of injecting fuel into the motor the electric car has a motor controller that takes power from the batteries and delivers it to the motor. With different components the vehicles function differently. The accelerator pedal in an electric vehicle is connected to a pair of potentiometers which provide the signal that tells the controller how much power it is supposed to deliver. The power delivered translates to the speed of the…

Prior to this course I was unaware of just how much fossil fuel the world uses and how if we don’t improve on our consumption we will run out in the not so distant future. As fossil fuel diminishes one step that many of us might consider is reducing the amount of fossil fuels we use in our transportation needs. In this class I researched and compared and contrasted all the major electric, hybrid and standard vehicles in an effort to show readers what type of vehicle may meet there wants and or needs. Through my research I discovered the importance of car companies to continue to make advances on these electric automobiles. While writing this paper I was able to provide justification and a strong rationale in the selection of a vehicle. Lastly, there are many other solutions for example as developing different and cleaner fuels or increasing public transportation. This course has opened my eyes to many energy solutions for the future of our…

Electric cars look very different under the hood than a gasoline-powered car. For one thing, there is a lot less tubing. For another, if you look underneath the hood of an electric car, one of the first things you will probably notice is the controller, which takes energy from the battery and distributes it to the motor in controlled packets. And that's pretty much it in a nutshell. Instead of a gas tank, the electric car keeps its fuel in a battery and relies on the controller, not the distributor, to get that fuel to the motor and make it go. Of course, there are a lot of complex goings-on in the motor that make that transfer possible, but we don't need to talk about those here. You control the amount of fuel that the electric motor gets,…

Overview Charged! is a racing game pitting a single human-controlled car against the AI. Each car will be miniature, akin to remote-controlled (RC) cars. The first car to navigate the obstacles of the world and complete the required number of laps wins! Charged! will be developed for the PC platform. The details in this document are a brief overview of what the game will be capable of delivering. Certain aspects may change depending on creative feel and aesthetic appearance, but largely the core of the game will follow the outline specified by this document. Game Concept Charged! is a single-player racing game, placing the human-controlled vehicle against AI-controlled vehicles of predetermined intelligence. Each car will resemble an RC car in terms of sound, appearance, size, and feel. Cars will race around an environment similar to those of real RC cars; a house. The player must avoid obstacles, look for shortcuts, perform jumps, and outdrive the AI to succeed in this game. In addition to simple racing mechanics, laying on the track in convenient places will be batteries. A car can drive over a battery in order to increase their battery meter. This mechanic allows the player to gain speed bursts in order to push past competition or fly down a straightaway. In some cases, boosts will be required to perform certain beneficial tactics, such as shortcuts. Game Goals • • • • • • • A quick, quirky racing engine that accurately depicts the physics and feel of an RC car.
