Astrology is a group of systems, traditions, and beliefs which hold that the relative positions of celestial bodiesand related details can provide information about personality, human affairs and other "earthly" matters. A practitioner of astrology is called an astrologer. Astrologers believe that the movements and positions of celestial bodies either directly influence life on Earth or correspond to events experienced on a human scale.[1] Modern astrologers define astrology as a symbolic language,[2][3][4] an art form, or a form of divination.[5][6] Despite differences in definitions, a common assumption of astrologers is that celestial placements can aid in the interpretation of past and present events, and in the prediction of the future.
Astrology is generally considered a pseudoscience or superstition by the scientific community, which cites a lack of statistically significant astrological predictions, while psychology explains much of the continued faith in astrology as a matter of cognitive biases.[7][8][9][10] In 2006 the U.S. National Science Board published a statement which said it considers belief in ten survey items, astrology among them, to be "pseudoscientific".[11]
Numerous traditions and applications employing astrological concepts have arisen since its earliest recorded beginnings in the 3rd millennium BC. Astrology has played an important role in the shaping of culture, earlyastronomy, the Vedas,[12] and various disciplines throughout history. In fact, astrology and astronomy were often indistinguishable before the modern era, with the desire for predictive and divinatory knowledge one of the motivating factors for astronomical observation. Astronomy began to diverge from astrology after a period of gradual separation from the Renaissance up until the 18th century. Eventually, astronomy distinguished itself as the empirical study of astronomical objects and phenomena, without regard to the terrestrial implications of astrology.

Sun-sign astrology, is the form of astrology most commonly found in many newspaper and magazine columns. It is a simplified system of astrology which considers only the position of the Sun, which is said to be placed within one of the twelve zodiac signs depending on the month of birth. This sign is then called the sun sign or star sign of the person born that month.
Sun sign astrologers take this basic twelve-fold division and relate all the current movements of all the planets to each other, using traditional rules to divine meanings for each sign separately. Paradoxically, because the Moonhas the fastest apparent movement of all the heavenly bodies, it is often used as the main indicator of daily trends for sun sign astrology forecasts.

Science (from Latin: scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise of gathering knowledge about nature and organizing and condensing that knowledge into testable laws and theories.[1] As knowledge has increased, some methods have proved more reliable than others, and today the scientific method is the standard for science. It includes the use of careful observation, experimentation, measurement, mathematics, and replication — to be considered a science, a body of knowledge must stand up to repeated testing by independent observers. The use of the scientific method to make new discoveries is called scientific research, and the people who carry out this research are called scientists
In the modern world, scientific research is a major activity in all developed nations, and scientists are expected to publish their discoveries in refereed journals, scientific periodicals where referees check the facts in an article before it is published. Even after publication, new scientific ideas are not generally accepted until the work has been replicated.
Scientific literacy is the ability of the general population to understand the basic concepts related to science.

Over the course of time, humans have created many studies that will eventually shape how we live, but one of those studies has had a lasting impact. Astrology is the study that largely changed the Elizabethan Era. "Astrology is the study of patterns and relationships -- of planets in motion, our birth chart, synastry with others, the make-up of elements -- and using that knowledge as a tool to find meaning" (Hall 1). Astrology is not science because it contains mostly beliefs that come from different religions, but it has a different category. Astrology was one of the most important studies at the time of the Elizabethan Era because it influenced many courses of events of humans and showed the fate of, it would make many people develop superstitions and new beliefs, and it affected the themes of famous stories, such as, The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.…

The Mayans and the Aztecs continually watched the stars as a way of predicting the future and interpreting religious phenomena. The Mayans built a number of observatories in their various city states, with a notable one in the city of Chechen Itza. Through the careful and detailed observations the Mayans made, they were able to accurately to predict the transit of Venus as well as construct a clock that, by some accounts, was more accurate than today’s atomic clock. The Mayans furthermore used the stars to schedule sacrifices, write the Mayan Codices, and orient buildings. The impact of celestial alignment on culture is not unique to this area; archaeoastronomy focuses on how ancients used astronomy around the world, in places like Stonehenge and the great pyramids in Egypt. The Aztecs likewise used the stars as a means of scheduling religious holidays that required human sacrifice, as well as to predict the future and to orient pyramids, just…

I enjoy looking at my horoscope just at much as the next person to try to see how my day or month will go, but the vagueness and randomness of this type of astrology leaves me skeptical. The descriptions of people and how they match up to their sign don’t always seem to hold value behind it (our in class experience for example) because everyone can be adventurous at times, or stubborn when they need to be. I believe that I do correlate with some traits of an Aries, because I do tend to be quite impatient and energetic, but I can’t say that I am much of a daredevil or very adventurous at all. Saying that depending on where planets were when you were born determines your personality seems to be a little bit of hocus pocus to me, but I must agree that looking up your horoscope for the day or trying to see if your matches up their sign is an engaging process that intrigues…
