What process(es) are used to make decision at your organization? Is the process the same regardless of the type of decision?
MISs can often give companies and other organizations the ability to achieve its operating objectives by “providing the right information to the right people in the right format and at the right time.” (Stair & Reynolds 2014, pg. 295). One of the processes that I used while working at Citibank was a monthly review of teller transaction differences report (A form of scheduled report). The process was simple and merely required the download of the report for my specific branch and conducting a review to ensure that the differences were within guidelines. If the differences by the tellers were outside of guidelines, training and performance management would need to be issued. In most cases the process is the same when it comes to operating and managing the branch. The MIS obtained provided the right information to all branch managers to make the decisions that is necessary to keep the branch running and ensure losses are minimized.

An organization such as Citibank incorporates many different MIS systems in order to function as well as achieve its objective of being a for profit company. One of the systems is a financial MIS; it “provides financial information for executives and for a broader set of people who need to make better decision on a daily basis.” (Stair & Reynolds 2014, pg. 300). The proprietary trading that the bank makes is based on such MIS, which helps to create indicators of when to buy and sell different securities. A financial MIS also helped Citibank to determine where its profit center were, i.e. the credit card division or the mortgage division. Manufacturing management information systems assists companies with the manufacturing and distribution of its products. A good example of this in the text is the use of MIS
