Purpose and Activities of Marriott
purpose and activity: * Purpose: the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists * Activity: Any activity that is engaged in for the primary purpose of making a profit. Business activities can include things like operations, marketing, production and organization.

marrriotts mission STATEMENT: and aims and objectives S.M.A.R.T
Marriott’s vision is to be the world’s leader in hospitality services and it achieves that through its spirit to serve culture. The Marriot has a corporate mission which entails being the world leader in hospitality services. This is translated into all departments which have their very own SMART objectives to help achieve this. * These are set monthly. They also have quarterly and annual targets which they call their "green zone goals". For example the HR department have the following objectives: * A green zone goal to have labour turnover to be below 25%.
For the month of September 2010, the HR dept have achieved a labour turnover of 10.1% a green zone goal for guest satisfaction at 75% * For the month of September the HR dept achieved guest satisfaction of 78.3 %
The HR dept aim to have an overall annual guest satisfaction of 85%. * The restaurant dept aim to have a green zone goal to minimize (food) costs to 26% monthly.
For the month of September they (the restaurant) have achieved 23.9%.

The hotel industry can be a very unpredictable environment. Employees at the Marriott are confronted with situations on a daily that test their values, beliefs and judgments. The reputation of the Marriot is built upon the actions of their employees at these times. It is vital for each member of the Marriott staff to understand the legal and ethical responsibility they have, in order to retain such a highly regarded reputation. To ensure the associates of the Marriott Corporation understand what is expected of them, the Marriot corporations has developed a tool to aid in this requirements called the Business Conduct Guide. As Marriot associates, officers, directors, or the persons acting on behalf of the Marriott, they are expected to be familiar with and work within the code of business conduct detailed in the Business Conduct Guide pre-establish by the Marriott. Managerial associates, officers, and directors are expected to set the proper tone and lead by example. The Marriott understands that in order for the regular staff to execute these guidelines to the best of their abilities, encouragement, supervision, and direction largely depended upon he attitudes of it leadership staff. Within this Business Conduct Guide, it lists an array of detail rules, regulations, and bylaws that the hotel personnel are expected to fallow. Employees are expected to follow these rules and regulations at all time.…
