Public Speaking Self-Reflection
In order for public speaking to become a skill, there are a few areas in which I need to improve to make it a suitable strength. Public speaking is not a weakness for me but I would like to transform it into one of my strengths. During my two minute presentation, I found that in order to do this I need to improve my ability to perform long speeches without hesitation, maintain eye contact, and be energetic in front of an audience showing more overview what topic I am discussing.
In class I plan to work on take the steps of improving my verbal communication in front of my peers. While talking I plan to avoid using filler words that will drag a speech on and draw less interest from my audience. Being able to talk among my peers by keeping good eye contact on them at all times. By doing this it allows me the freedom to walk around and not be completely immobile when giving a speech. Understanding how to organize my work to have a solid overview on what I will be saying when presenting.
With this class I hope it takes me to a whole new level on how to talk to people and how to control my emotions when in front of any audience regardless who it is. By allowing myself this sense of understand and awareness will help give me a sense of calmness giving me the ability to stand up and say what I need to say when giving a speech or if I am in a crowd listening to someone speak to offer my views on what is being said.
In order for myself to improve my weak areas to accomplish my goals I will have to do the following: first write a speech and review it, next go over the speech many times in a place I feel safe performing the speech. After this find a mirror, use this to help reduce my fear when speaking in front of people. If this doesn’t work for me I can always use my family to help me. This will be continued to repeat itself until I felt I was ready to

I believe that when someone is up front making a presentation, it is very important that people are able to hear you talk. I know I have a loud voice, and when I do public speaking, I have no problem with people being able to hear me. Another strength that I have is being animated. What I mean by this is being able to change my voice when needed and using my hands to try and make a point when needed. This is important because it keeps the audience listening and shows that I am trying to make my speech interesting. The last thing I would think is a strength that I have is the ability to make constant eye contact with my audience. This is also very important because keeping good eye contact tells the audience that you know what you are talking about and have confidence in your…

When enrolling into a new class, it is normal to have expectations. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I understand that the upcoming semester will provide many challenges I will have to face. I am excited to see how I will grow academically over the course of the semester. I find myself eager about learning new things and refreshing my knowledge on things I have forgotten. It has been a long time since I have studied the growth and development of humans. I have strengths to bring to this class as well as weaknesses that I plan to work on during this class. By the end of this course I expect to be able to apply what I learn in counseling and become a better writer. While this class will be more stimulating than what I have been used to I hope that with the help of my classmates and my professor I can make this class a positive learning experience.…

My whole life, public speaking has daunted me. When I am forced to present in front of a class, I do not feel nervous until I am at the podium facing thirty other students. Even though I am confident in what I am saying, my body and words prefer to shake. I have tried to improve my speaking abilities but have not had much success. It wasn’t until I decided to really challenge myself that I found…

Often when one embarks on a journey, one does not only encounter the hardships and experiences the physical side of the journey offers. People experience journeys in varied different ways. A journey is an act of travelling from one place to another. The texts I have chosen to express the complex and varied ways one experience journeys are the poems ‘Journey of the Magi’ and ‘Of Eurydice’, the novel Emma by Jane Austen and a visual text.…

For one, I will change the fact that I use go-to words a lot in presenting to audiences. This includes phrases like “basically”, “I mean”, and “like”. Also, I should make more eye contact with the audience instead of looking at my notes for reference. Finally, I have to practice my presentation in front of a mirror or record myself beforehand because I need to work on my pauses and know my lines without having to bring out any notecards. By doing these three things, it would help my presentation skills in front of audiences a lot and would give me more confidence when…

During speech season, I was told that at some points I drop my sentences and don’t finish them clearly for my audience, and that’s what I was told occurred during my speech. I want to improve this, but unfortunately I don’t know when I do it so I can’t fix it. I feel it’s my nervous habit, because I really don’t do much else while in front of a crowd. Next time, I am definitely going to practice more. Even if I am proud of my speech, I know that practicing will improve every aspect of my speech that I am worried about. My attention grabber and beginning part of my speech was something I am very proud of. Although it might have made the audience question why, it made them think. I introduced Julia and told the listeners about her incredible height and later tied that in with the clincher which improved my conclusion and review. I feel like I improved on my “and's,” I only had one time I might have trailed off but I got right back on track. I also don’t feel like I had many vocalized pauses because I began to feel comfortable. Next time, I also want to have more organized note cards in the first…

In being afraid of speaking publicly I have a problem with my hands shaking, dry mouth, inability to make effective eye contact with audience members while remembering my speech, and using fluctuations in my voice. Honestly, I feel to be good at public speaking, I need to work on each one of these issues. To keep people engaged and interested in what you are speaking about, you need to be able to make eye contact, not speak in a monotone voice, and it distracts from the speech if you are seeing someone shaking and struggling to remember their words while…

My strengths as a speaker are that I can get all of my information out. Other than that I do not feel that I have any more strengths in public speaking. My weaknesses in public speaking are that I get very nervous and because of it my voice becomes shaky and I have a difficult time controlling my breathing. Almost every time I would give presentations in high school I would have to take a pause from speaking to take a deep breath because I would forget to breath. Another weakness I have is that I tend to talk really quietly and I have been constantly told to speak up during my presentations. I believe that I have more weaknesses than strengths as a speaker because I tend to focus on the negative instead of the…

So that’s the number 1: You know how to get to public speaking, actually you have to practice. But the first thing you can do is to visualize yourself in front of the audience. Visualization is the tool when you picture or paint the future in advance. So imagine yourself standing before there audience, imagine the audience, just uploading and hinjừn on every word and then you totally inspire them. So that’s the first step. After doing this, before again, practice mentally throwing three shot that you’re playing basket ball or hitting a home run and then when you actually do this, your body or your mind does not know the different between something your imagine or real happening and imagine that “ Oh, I did this before, I know what to do here” so that why visualizing, using the power or your mind paint the future in advance.…
