Psychologists This report is about the job of a psychologist. I chose the topic of a psychologist because I want to be a part of something for a cause, to help people. I realized recently that I pay attention to the different aspects of people's behaviors so I usually know how the other person is feeling. So if I can apply my skills to a career, it would have to be a psychologist. A psychologist would be a perfect career because I knew already that psychologists study the behaviors of people and help them with a solution to their problems. When it came to my sources, I found that the books were easier to deal with. They were much easier to deal with because most of the information I needed was on the same page so I didn't have to scavenge for facts. The source that gave me the most problems was the interview. It's because I didn't get to job shadow so I couldn't sit and ask questions. Instead, I had to look around for a psychologist to interview because so many were unavailable. I found that the internet source was the most valuable because there was so much information that it had more than the book and interview combined. I've learned while researching that psychologists make their money varying how much they've studied in college and what type of psychologist they become. On average, they usually make $28,001 to $50,001 or more per year. The highest 10% of psychologists earn more than $125,560 a year. The outlook of becoming a psychologist is good in Louisiana and USA and it is expected that this job's outlook will grow fast as average. Before getting on the job, a person expecting to work in this field of psychology must get a degree depending on what type of psychologist. The degrees range from Master's Degrees, Doctoral Degrees, PhDs, and PsyDs. You must also get a state license and board certification. Studying subjects like biology, psychology, sociology, math, English, and science in high school may benefit when applying for

    1. Chapter 1 Psychologist- Definition: A professional with an academic degree and specialized training in one or more areas of psychology. For example, I saw a psychologist after a traumatic event when I was in 2nd grade . My family went to Santa 's Village (a Christmas theme park/carnival), as we had done every year with my whole family. My dad, my sister, and I went on the ferris wheel together, and half way during the ride it began to break. Parts started falling off, and it began to spin really fast forward, stop, and then spin really fast backward. I remember looking at my mom, who was standing on the ground with a look of horror, and mouthing that I loved her. A cable ended up…

In module 1A, I learned about the history of psychology, psychological perspectives, careers in psychology, and ethics. At the start of the idea of psychology Wilhelm Wundt became the “father of psychology”. Different approaches and perspectives became as a variety of people began to study psychology, such as Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytical perspective, Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow’s psychological perspective, and so on. I also learned about the diverse careers in the psychology field. There are clinical and counseling psychologists which diagnose and treat people with things such as depression, and there are sports psychologists to help athletes keep their heads in the game. In the last…

First, Pavlov used soundproof lab because it allowed to isolate experimenters from all extraneous stimuli during the experimental procedures. Second, Pavlov chose food as unconditioned stimulus because food will elicit the unconditioned response, which was the salivation of the dog. In order to find a neutral stimulus that was completely unrelated to food, Pavlov decided to use the metronome as the neutral stimulus . The ticking of the metronome was exposed to the dog, immediately followed by the food. After numerous trials under this condition, the dog has began to salivate after hearing the ticking of the bell. In another word, the metronome has changed from neutral stimulus to conditioned stimulus , which has created the conditioned response of dog's salivation. Pavlov and his assistants also elaborated on this preliminary finding by using different unconditioned and neutral stimuli. For example, the odor of vanilla was presented after a mild acid solution (similar to lemon juice) was placed in the dog's mouth . The mild acid solution caused the dog to salivate . However, after several trials, the dog began to salivate solely to the odder of vanilla . Another importance finding was that the neutral stimulus did not affect the subjects conditioning if it was presented after the unconditioned stimulus. Pavlov first gave the mild acid solution to the dog; and after awhile, presented the odor of vanilla . But there was no significant change of the dog's behavior. The odor of vanilla did not changed to a conditioned stimulus. he theory of Classical Conditioning (aka Pavlovian conditioning) has now been accepted universally and unchanged since its first finding through Pavlov's work. It is now used to explain various different human behaviors, such as causation of phobias, why people dislike certain food, source of emotions, etc. Pavlov's finding has showed that classical conditioning focuses on reflexive behaviors,…

Exaptation: A variation of adaptation. An adaptation is a core construct in evolutionary psychology, which is a characteristic that a species has that promotes its survival. An exaptation is something that arises from a characteristic that you already have. A characteristic that you have is modified to promote your survival. It might not have been a primary future, but it is a characteristic that human beings have acquired over time that humans have used to their advantage. For example, the ability to reject an offer is an exaptation that people have made over time, which people have benefited from.…

I will obviously have to attend college and get a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in something else. I am thinking that minor will be in Spanish. After college I will attend graduate school. So if I play my cards right and do not get distracted, it will take about nine years. I am currently working in retail. I have been with the company of BestBuy for three years now. And with working for them, this is kind of why I want to go into becoming an industrial psychologist. Within the next two years I am hoping once I declare my major that I can leave BestBuy and get a new job, perhaps at a doctor’s office, perhaps where I can work as a receptionist.…
