Goldilocks and the Dysfunctional Family of Bears

One day, a young girl named Goldilocks was wandering through the woods, when she stumbled upon a rugged looking log house. She was automatically intrigued, and wanted to know who lived there, so she decided to knock on the door and see who would answer it. She walked up the long stone path towards the house and was utterly shocked when a brown bear wearing a pink apron answered the door. “Who are you? Why are you here?” she asked nervously. “My name is Goldilocks” she replied. “I was strolling through the woods when I noticed your house and I just wanted to know who lived here.” The brown bear looked nervous and tense. Goldilocks took a step closer and peaked inside. The house looked nothing like she was expecting. Everything was organized and nothing was out of place. “Can I come in?” she asked. All of a sudden two more bears came running down the stairs to see what was going on. “Stop running you’ll knock something over and make a mess!” yelled one of the bears. “Who cares!?” replied the other bear. “Look at my new bracelet and dress! Aren’t they fabulous? Aren’t I fabulous?!” Goldilocks was so overwhelmed with what she was experiencing, she yelled out so they could all hear her. “Can I come in!?” she asked. All three bears stopped what they were doing and looked at her. “Sure,” said the one bear, “as long as you don’t touch anything or make a mess; there is a place for everything and everything is in its place!” “Okay, thank you!” replied Goldilocks, “if you don’t mind me asking, what are your names?”
The smallest bear was the first to answer, and yelled out with great confidence, “my name is Calli, and my favourite colour is pink, I like to shop, and I own twenty seven dresses and fifty four pairs of shoes!” she said excitedly. “Wow…that’s nice,” said Goldilocks. “I’m sorry about Calli,” said the bear in the pink apron. “My name is Lilah, Calli is my daughter, but she is a little crazy.” Goldilocks

Growing up, my childhood was ladled with stories. I absolutely loved Carmen Brown, Junie B. Jones, and Joey Piggza, but the one story that stood out the most to me was The Bernstein Bears. The Bernstein Bears is a children’s story book collection written and illustrated by Stan and Jan Bernstein. The series focuses on combating common child and adolescent issue with the ‘power’ of family unity. Family unity was something that I felt I did not have growing up, and I idealized the idea of having a family unit with all three bears: mama,…
