Pros And Cons Of Recycling Of Pennies
Have you ever had a mountain of pennies and have nothing to do with them. Have you ever even really used the penny. You don't go to the store and buy something for a penny. It just sits on top of your dresser. What if there was a way to stop having a pile of pennies on your dresser. We just have to get rid of the penny. The penny should not be made because of its high production cost and the high cost to taxpayers.

Should the penny be made? NO. People in the us do not like the penny because it wasting there money. People counting pennies waste time and time is money. Those seconds add up. We could possibly save up to 700 million a year(source 2). I rarely use the penny i never carry them on me. I think we should lose the penny. Also the

    One of the many reasons the penny should be deleted is because of the cost to actually manufacture one. The penny itself is created to hold the monetary value of the one cent, the lowest value, yet it costs 2.4 cents to manufacture each one thus making the tradeoff of creating a penny to be negative since the output is more than the input thus concluding towards a disincentive. “This, although is a small loss of money, can result in and will amount to the loss of millions of dollars over the cause of several years.” (Source A) Within today’s society, people have a hard time to buy anything with even the dollar. Even if someone is able to buy something with the dollar, the dollar simplifies to 100 pennies and since it costs 2.4 cents to create each individual penny, essentially 1.4 dollars are wasted. With America already submerged in a national debt of $18.34 billion, these costs that outweigh the benefits will not only raise our national taxes to compensate for the lost money, but will also dig into the education programs to raise funds for lost money thus cutting children’s education. “Essentially, the penny is so worthless that it does nothing but waste more money and time.” (Source B)…

    Today, it costs the U.S about 1.7 cents to make a penny. The amount of pennies minted each year varies, but it usually ranges between 3 billion and 7 billion per year. So in turn, instead of actually earning money from making these coins, the U.S can lose huge amounts of money. According to the The Washington Post In 2007, the U.S. Mint lost $31 million in making 6.6 billion new pennies. The current funding for pennies is only about 14.79 million dollars. Think about it: If there is an extra 16 million dollars being spent, where does that money come from? Out of tax payers’ pockets of course. Our hard earned money is being used to make even more money, except in a useless form. Retailers, too, incur penny-related costs of their own. More than 10 years ago, in a 1999 article, Time Magazine estimated that Walgreens lost $1.3 million each year merely counting pennies. When we are already nearly 14 trillion dollars in debt, why should we waste so much money on a coin that’s thrown into fountains at the mall?…
