Propaganda can be defined as “information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.”1Benito Mussolini founded his Fascist party in 1919 and came into power in 1921. He used a number of methods in order to sustain his fascist regime in Italy. Different from other inapproachable leaders the Duce always wanted to show his country that he is one of them.
One of his main methods of propaganda was therefore his personal cult. On the one side he often got portrayed in a macho manner but on the other side he wanted to present himself as a nice and caring family man who cares a lot about his country and his people.
Newspapers were exactly instructed what and how to report of him. So he wanted to create a picture of himself as a strong, high masculine man of the people who will lead his country out of all the problems which are exist and who will represent the needs of all the different population groups existing in Italy. By travelling through the country he wanted to build up a relationship with his country and the reporters who were always by his side portrayed the Duce as the embodiment of Italy.
Besides his personal cult which helped Mussolini to strengthen his position, he used a lot of methods of control by forbidding all other parties in the country, killing leaders of
