PROJECT CHARTER

1.0Introduction

Overview of the Project

Management and students of the University for Development Studies have decided to build a modern hospital to provide learning, research center and health care services for the students, staff and the general public. A Modern Hospital is a well running and Hi-tech hospital which is fully equipped with latest and most modern state of art medical and surgical machinery. A team of well-qualified Doctors and trained paramedical staff manage the hospital. The hospital is open for all kind of emergencies round the clock. Over the past few years the issue of borrowed facilities for use by the medical students of the University has become critical. As a result management and students decided to solicit funds for the construction of a modern hospital. The facility when provided will provide access to medical care to the school, the communities around the school as well as the general public and will serve as a reliever to the pressure on the Tamale Teaching Hospital on referral cases from the district hospitals and surrounding clinics.

1.1.Purpose and Business Case of the Project Charter

The University for Development has a student and staff population of 15,000 and that of the communities around about 50,000. The nearest health care services center is about 6km away from the campus. Commuting between the school and health care delivery centers put financial burden on staff and students as well as taking away much of their productive time. The modern hospital when provided will address these concerns for improved health care delivery, teaching and learning.

2.Project Objective and Scope

2.1.Objective

As a result of the increased spread of various diseases in Northern Ghana, a modern hospital is needed to help in research and diagnoses, manage, improve and control all health issues. In addition, core technology facilities must be able to manage and distribute the data back to collaborating scientists in a controlled and secure manner. They must also have billing, tracking, and other capabilities to perform administrative functions efficiently. A well-designed modern hospital can provide the solution to all of these production requirements.
