Project Management: Article Review Week Six
Introduction
Many companies are facing the fact that project management is essential to their organizational and business needs. This article will relate how companies can utilize principles within their organization during the initial project management phase.

Article Review
The article addresses common issues that many companies face in regards to how project management fits in within an organization. Most organizations will agree that project management is an important aspect of business, but many companies fail to find the middle ground of incorporating project management and keeping costs down (Shannon, 2004). The article discusses a guide that was created by the Project Management Specific Interest Group (GoPM) as a tool for companies to use when incorporating project management (Shannon, 2004). Understanding the principles and purposes of project management are crucial to having a successful project management team. Equally important, understanding management and executive interaction with the project management team and the role the project team plays within the company. The guide offers a series of questions related to four topics to help companies determine if they are on the right track with the project management and the direction of the projects that are underway (Shannon, 2004). The guide is also a helpful tool at the onset of a project to help assist in avoiding common pitfalls and saving the company from having to address these issues once it is too late.

Conclusion In conclusion, many companies’ projects fail because of lack of knowledge in the area and rising cost. Senior management and decision makers within the organization need to know that there are guides to assisting in successful project management. The guide is not a law, but a
