I have a duty of care to report any concerns I have about a child, that may come from there home situation. This must be reported immediately to the classroom practitioner and Child Protection Officer (CPO) within the school. Doing this can contribute to safeguarding and protecting children who are in vulnerable situations.

Conflicts that may arise between the duty of care for the child and the individual right are that one member of staff may believe that there is a problem, however another colleague or member of management may not think the same. This may cause a conflict between staff/staff, staff/manager and manager/staff Another conflict that may arise may be that of a difference of opinion between the school staff and the parents regarding allegations that could be made. It is important when looking at conflicts and dilemmas within the setting to ensure that you have got all the information possible to ensure the right cause of action. However even with all this evidence in place it is important that more than one person makes the decision and actions needed. For example, if a child discloses something to a member of staff and requests that it is kept confidential it is important to initially inform the child that it may have to be passed on, at this point you should risk assess the situation and decide whether the child is in harm or not.
