Presentation Summary
The success of any organization starts with its leadership. Winston Churchill said that the first important step for a good leader is to select his successor. An organization must not only pick good current leadership but must have a good succession of leadership. Recruiting talented leadership is therefore essential for every organization. Good leaders create a successful business environment. In order to recruit successful leaders, one must find those with necessary leadership skills. The core traits for good leadership skills are drive motivation honesty, integrity, self confidence, cognitive ability, and especially knowledge of the business.
For an organization to effectively select its leadership it’s important to understand the theories and models for identifying good leadership. These theories and models will help an organization identify which qualities of leadership are most important. The first theory is called the consideration approach which creates mutual trust, respect, and good relationships. The second theory is called initiating structure which involves a leader organizing, checking, and defining group activities in his or her relationship to the group. There are several models of leadership which are called transformational and visionary and charismatic leadership. These models consider various methods for good leadership to create successful results for organizations. These theories and models can be used together to recruit talented leadership.
In order for an organization to create effective leadership a variety of factors must be considered. One aspect involves follower involvement. Power and leadership in organizations can be enhanced by follower involvement. Leaders need the help of subordinates to get work done which involves power sharing. Power sharing can be categorized into 3 forms. Power over refers to explicit or implicit dominance which leads to undermining relationships and goal achievement. Power to focuses on
