One of the most powerful movie elements to how the audience perceives a scene of the film is often looked over. Close to all pivotal movie scenes contain the little background music, also known as underscore. This powerful audio element effects the way audiences feel and react to a scene. The underscore that is present in The Book Thief greatly impacted the tone, mood, and suspense of certain scenes. Three of these scenes that were greatly impacted by underscore were when the Nazi party came to check basements for air raid shelters, when Liesel writes her life story in the basement, and when Liesel walks up Himmel Street after the bomb hits.…

We are venturing again to Los Angeles this week where 1987 graduate, Corey Jackson, works as a film and television composer. After a movie is made, Corey meets with the director of the film to “spot” the film. This is the process of deciding where music should go in the film and what emotions the music should portray. After the spot, Corey writes the music for one scene at a time. Each composition is sent to the director for approval. Corey says that the director may like it the first time or may send it back with notes and suggestions for him to try again. “Once that is completed I, with the help of my team, will record, mix and deliver the music to the dubbing stage for final mix,” says Jackson. He also describes being on the set of a movie as not glamorous, contrary to what some may think. On a constant deadline, he says working is hard, time consuming, and challenging, but working with like minded people who all have the same ultimate goal and work ethic makes it easier.…

    Les Miserables Analysis

Hannah Kent, in Burial Rites and Billie August in Les Miserables explore a variety of injustices as a product of prejudice by revealing the flaws of their Nineteenth Century social system. Although Kent released her novel in the 21st century, she thoroughly presents Nineteenth Century Iceland in all its formidable culture of prejudice and hardship to the same extent that August explores Nineteenth Century France in Les Miserables. Though both authors propose that one’s preconception of another rests in the position of their social class, August presents that as one’s social class changes, the prejudice changes towards them changes. This is different to Kent as she entices the readers to see the nature of men and their prejudice towards women…

In the end of the novel George kills Lennie because Curly and the men on the ranch were after Lennie and were going to make him suffer because he killed Curly’s wife. My first evidence is a quote from the novel this quote is said by George to Lennie right before he killed Lennie, “ You … an’ me. Ever’body gonna be nice to you. Ain’t gonna be no trouble. Nobody gonna hurt nobody nor steal from’em’.” (Steinbeck 147). This quote proves my thesis because here George is making Lennie think of happy thought and about his dream so he can die with happy thoughts. This also shows that George cares for Lennie and does not want to see Lennie suffer by Curly or by anyone else. Moreover, this quote is when George had just killed Lennie and he then answers Slim’s offer to go get a drink, “yeah, a drink” (Steinbeck 148). This quote shows that George feels a tremendous amount of guilt by killing Lennie but he knew that if they had escaped from Curly and the men then Lennie would keep causing trouble wherever they went next because he just does not understand the things that he is doing, this quote also shows that George did actually love Lennie and cared about him and that he did not want to kill him. Lennie’s death gave George freedom and the ability to go and make money without constantly having to deal with Lennie’s troubles on the other hand it was also the end of Lennie’s American dream. This quote is said by by…

    Dantes Inferno

In a board meeting Mr. Potter, who owns the only other bank in town, suggests closing Building and Loans down for his own personal gain. Minutes before George is getting ready to leave, the board votes to keep Building and Loans open under one condition, that George takes the position of executive secretary. Knowing the alternative, George decides to stay and he never gets out of his small hometown. Just before the release of It’s a Wonderful Life in 1946, America had gone through the Great Depression and immediately after that they went through World War two. While both of these events are seen in the film, it is the Great Depression that plays a larger part in the plot of the story and defining Mr. Potter as a character. Mr. Potter is just as deceitful, greedy and malicious as the politicians Dante mentions in the Inferno. He only cares about himself and doesn’t care about the welfare of the common people. At one point in the film when he sees that he is not going to get his hands on Building and Loans, he plays on George’s desires of having a generous salary to try and get George to work for him. George considers it, but comes to his senses and declines the offer. Later in the movie, Billy Bailey “loses” twenty-five thousand dollars and…

A movie like Fences only comes once in a great while. It is sort of an unconventional movie, unlike most. It is filmed almost as though it is a play, which is exactly how this film got its origins. Written by August Wilson in 1985, Fences started off as a Broadway play that ended up winning the Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama in 1987. This drama focuses on exploring the African-American experience and looks deep into the heart of race relations.…
