In the year of 1877, Reconstruction started and was a big success in resolving political, social, and economic problems. Furthermore, it restored the United States as a unified nation. The era was established to fix all the conflicts between the North and South. Additionally three more amendments were stated, the 13th, 14th, and 15th; declaring former slaves the right to vote, earning their citizenship, and making slavery illegal. Although the former black slaves were now free, they had no land and very few rights, and most did not even have family. However with the reconstruction, blacks were able to gain rights, but were continuously harassed by the white southerners. The formation of the Ku Klux Klan sabotaged hopes for freedom and progress for African Americans.…
The reason for US neutrality in the 1920s and 1930s was because the US has always been accustomed to isolation. They wanted to go back to “normalcy.” They tried to refrain the country from getting involved in foreign affairs that would require resources. There was a lot of social changes going on during this period of time for groups such as women having the ability to vote and African Americans being more seen as equal. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, certain novels and journals were making claims regarding the idea that some manufacturers were pushing the country into World War One in order to obtain a profit from it. The senate started to investigate these claims, but in the end did not find any evidence that made this statement factual.…
There were three significant causes of WW1 and they were the following: alliances, militarism, and imperialism. What were the main causes of WWI? Alliances, Imperialism, and militarism were the three main causes of WWI.…
During the early 1920s, World War I had just ended, and many countries were not happy with the outcome. The Treaty of Versailles was a poor settlement to World War I, and left three particular countries unhappy; Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Treaty of Versailles left many limitations on Germany, and failed to give Italy and Japan the recognition they deserved. During the 1930s, these countries decided to take action, and fight for what they wanted. Though both appeasement and collective security were taken in response, collective security proved to be the more effective response to the aggression.…
Fathers and fathers sons marched by the doors of daughters and distraught wives in the pursuit of their country's freedom. World War 1 was fought from July 1914 to November 1918. The main powers involved were Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, and Austria-Hungary. The war predominantly took place in Europe. What we want to know is, what was the hidden cause of WWI. Of the three most important causes of WW1, the main cause was militarism.…
For a long time, after the World War 1 had started in 1914, the United States wanted to stay neutral towards the first World War. The war did not really interest Americans, because it did not involve them directly. But as the war continued, many significant events happened that affected people to change their opinions. Germany’s attack towards small Belgium, sinking of passenger liners like Lusitania, economical causes and the Zimmermann note from Germany to Mexico were the reasons that got the United States to join the war.…

Where originally the goal was to reform the United States of America and answer the question of slavery in the states (popular sovereignty or not), was changed to the abolitions of slavery and appeasing and angry south. According to the Republican Party Platform of 1864, the addition of the 14th and 15th amendments granted the right of suffrage and citizenship demanded by the convention of coloreds only further aggravated the war torn south (Doc H). As a result the government was forced to focus the majority of Johnson’s presidency on the reconstruction on the US. Blacks were supporters of the reconstruction, as shown by their extremely instrumental involvement in the constitutional conventions (Doc J). Blacks were able to gain full citizenship and suffrage, feats that would have been otherwise impossible if they had not affected the course of the civil war in t hey way that they…
The Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth amendments established a new vision of equality before the law, regardless of race, as the definition of American citizenship, and of the national government as the protector of the fundamental rights of all Americans (Intro X). Powerful words on paper, and if they would have been acknowledged by those whose prejudice against blacks was stronger than the acceptance that they are an individual people with rights, it is possible reconstruction may have lasted and our history as a country would have been much different. How would the country (or the world) be if reconstruction would have been a success? How would it have been if the Ku Klux Klan had not decided that white supremacy was the only way? I am disappointed that hate and racism are still so prominent in society today and not just whites against black, or blacks against white, it is everyone. History repeats itself, this is a known fact. Unless we do something, learn from past mistakes, and make the world a better place for our…
The 60’s were full of drugs, sex, and war. All of this was possible thanks to Democracy and Freedom; America would be damned if they let Communism threaten that. The draft was reinstated and young, able men were given a slap on the back and sent off to fight for their country. As, “Democratic”, war in Vietnam flared, many lives were being lost and many more ruined - physically, economically and mentally. Although the war in Vietnam had the complete support of the American government, the American people resented their governments actions.…
The Abolitionists through Reconstruction era was successful in laying the foundation for equality in America. Before the Civil War, the slave codes were in effect which stated slavery as a permanent condition, and defined slaves as property which was appalling and dehumanized the slaves. Invalidating the slave codes, the 13th amendment ended slavery and involuntary servitude. The military reconstruction act of 1867 set conditions that the states rejoining the union were mandated to uphold, such as the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, which greatly helped African-Americans. The 14th amendment granted all natural born people American citizenship, including formerly enslaved people.…
On the path to equality for African Americans the civil war was a key event in history that lead to a constitutional amendment that abolished slavery in the United States of America. To begin, the civil war was an event caused by long standing tensions among the Northern and Southern states. The constant disagreements about American life and politics surrounding slavery was the main focus of the war. The war was fueled by many events like the compromise of 1850 that allowed for cloudy description of runaway slaves to be used to identify and recover them. Consequently, many free backs were forced to go into a life of slavery and these acts increased the unease regarding slavery. Furthermore, growing sectionalism tension were also escalated by…
This was also referenced as the “Reconstruction Amendments” and it took The United States nearly 50 years to establish these three significant amendments that would benefit people of color to live the life they deserve in the U.S. The Thirteenth Amendment was placed so slavery would be abolished for good. On the other hand, the Fourteenth Amendment consisted of granting citizenship to anyone who was a slave at that point while in todays time, it is continued to be used to allow people across the world to have the opportunity to live in the United States. There also was the creation of The Fifteenth Amendment, this was the first step to have African-Americans receive access to contribute to the decision of selecting new Politicians or Presidents by giving them the right to vote. Without these three amendments in the U.S., there would not have been more chain reactions for more rights and laws created for minorities and people of color living in the United…
When Reconstruction ended it was promised by the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments that slavery would be abolished, being a free citizen in the United States, and having the right to vote. Although these things were granted there were many loop holes that the U.S Democracy didn’t include. Though colored people were given the right to voted there were clauses which made it virtually impossible such as the grandfather clause, and a literacy test. The grandfather clause…
After the deaths of 37,508,686 soldiers by the end of World War I, Europe was a mess. Countries had been dissolved and rearranged, governments had fallen and been replaced, and economies were thriving then crashing, all as a result from World War I. One of the main goals at the end of World War I was to prevent another tragedy like World War I from happening again. Clearly that did not happen, as World War II still happened, causing over 50 million deaths. The repercussions of World War I caused World War II due to radical ideology, bad economic conditions, and nationalism to the point of extremity.…
