Ponyboy Curtis's The Outsiders
Did you know that according to Debate.org, 56% of people surveyed that they prefer a book over a movie? This is mostly due to the details the book includes. “The Outsiders” takes place in 1965. Ponyboy Curtis a 14 year old teenager, is in a gang called The Greasers. A bunch of juvenile delinquents, who live on the east side of town. The Greasers have a rival called The Socs. The rich, and spoiled kids that live on the west side of town. Both the book and the movie have similarities, but there are some important details that were left out in the movie. Such as how Dally died, also there isn’t any English assignment, and at the end of the story there isn’t a scuffle between Ponyboy and a Soc.

    It contains very strong theme about dysfunctional family, use of drugs and crime. I guess the board of education was afraid that the students will imitate the events in the book. However, I understand why they decided to re-allow it in schools. The author, who wrote this book around our age really wanted to deliver that we can all live together in peace and conflict only bring more conflict. Although the family in the Outsiders wasn’t the best family you could ask for, they had so much love inside them they didn’t actually portray to each other. They just didn’t know the right way to express it. I would rate this book 4/5 because of the effectiveness of the author trying to deliver her message in a coherent manner. I highly recommend all teenagers to read this book. Overall, I think this compelling story will grasp even the most reluctant readers thanks to the deep bond of sympathy.
