Politics in the Philippines
Politics is defined as the theory and practice of government, the interrelation between people who exercise and resist power, and the use of tactics and strategy to gain power in a certain number of people. However, a lot of deeper definitions have been correlated with the term “politics”, both in a positive and negative way. It is now said that politics is a gamble, dirty and decisive, that it already lost its noble meaning. It is once said that politics may be considered as the noblest profession, if only it is created for the service of the people. Ladies and gentlemen, politics covers a very comprehensive area, covering the physical, economical, social and moral aspect of a nation. And I would like to make the simplest yet profound presentation of this topic based on our very own. This is the anatomy of the Philippine Politics.

The political system and the economical status are two inseparable factors on the growth of every country, and from there, we can say that we have no stable economic status because we have no stable government. The economical status is displayed because there is the government that is supposed to manage and regulate the functions of the economy. Therefore, it is the government that plays a big part. The goal of the government MUST be to sustain its people the standard of living that every individual really deserves. But here in the Philippines, many Filipinos live in the upper class, more on the middle class, and MOST on the lowest class, just on or under the poverty line. Why is this so? Is everything the government’s fault? Of is it the masses? Let’s dissect each of these two.

The government is supposed to be composed of the government officials only, since it is called the government. But the fact that a lot of Filipinos do not see is that aside from the gluttonous government officials who fights for power, there is also some of the elite class, the greedy businessmen who have hidden agendas as they make deeper coordination with

    a. The two-party system is a more efficient mechanism in creating a more effective government as compared to the multi-party system that the Philippines are currently adopting. In a political environment created by a two-party system, the objective and ideology of each of the two major parties is clearly identifiable. Consequently, the policies that that will be forwarded after the elections will be in congruence to such ideology thus creating a more stable and effective government governed by a single party. This system immediately produces a government after elections thus maintaining the continuous and smooth flow of the government rendering the services to the constituents. The multi-party system on the other hand is a failure when it comes to the generation of an immediate and effective government after elections. There is a possibility that creation and implementation of policies will be delayed because the political environment created by such system demands the formulation of a consensus between the winning parties, which actually takes a lot of time and arbitrary efforts. This is very much evident in the Philippines given that key government positions starting from the president down to the local level are not controlled only by a single party. Winning politicians often comes from different political parties and actually uphold different political interests and ideologies that they ought to promote and support. In such case, performance of the government as a whole is often affected. The more time that the government delays its policy implementation, the more possibility that our economy and performance as a nation will lag behind. That a lagging economy and policy implementation will result into more state problems on queue is the consequence that will trickle down to the…

According to Sidel, “Of all the countries of Southeast Asia, the Philippines offers the most obvious case of local strongmen through which to re-examine the scholarly literature sketched above. Scholars and other commentators have long emphasised both the predominance of patron-client relations and the persistence of a landowning élite in the archipelago. Elections – local, congressional, and national – in the Philippines have long been dominated by local politicians and ‘political clans’ known to enjoy not only political longevity but…

According to Renaldo Mendoza, executive director of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center, “political dynasties continue to monopolize political power in many local governments like provinces, municipalities and cities nationwide, and categorized current reigning political clans as “fat” or “thin” dynasties.” Mendoza said “fat” dynasties are political families that have several members holding elective positions in a certain local government for three years. A “thin” dynasty is a political clan that only has two members – like a father and son – swapping certain positions, as when a mayor-father, at the end of his maximum three terms, lets his son, who may also have reached his three-year term either as vice mayor, councilor, provincial governor or vice governor, running for each other’s position, he added. In Maguindanao, the “fat” Ampatuan dynasty held eight out of the 37 mayoralty posts in the province’s 37 municipalities, Mendoza said. Other provinces with a big number of fat dynasties include Apayao province, Dinagat Islands, Siquijor and Sulu.…

This paper is a critique to the articles of Raul P. de Guzman and Onofre D. Corpus which were both published in 1986, at the height of the People Power and at the time when there was still no concrete system of public administration to talk about. The two authors wrote about the same thing but presented different and independent justification whether or not there is a Philippine public administration. The Philippine Constitution and Philippine Administrative Code came a year after the two articles were published. Hence, my critique will focus on the relevance of the main theme “is there a Philippine public administration?” after more than two decades, five Presidents, seven congresses and having the population size of the country double from 48M in 1980 to 97M in 2013. Most importantly, is the Philippine public administration, if there is any, responsive and relevant to the changing times?…

All atoms are made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The classical model of the atom consists of a positively charged nucleus made up of protons and neutrons, and a number of negatively charged electrons in orbit about the nucleus. The simplest form of the model pictures electrons as tiny particles which circle the nucleus in definite orbits similar to the orbits of the planets about the sun. Though this model is useful in visualizing electrical processes, it must be pointed out that it is quite inadequate for describing the details of atomic structure. These details can be explained with the methods of quantum mechanics, the branch of physics used to describe molecular and atomic phenomena. The usefulness of the orbital model of the atom is based upon the fact that the physical parameters of electrons are “quantized” and can take on only certain discrete values.…

Current structure shares an equal importance in predicting the future of a state, along side with its history. The most vital issues that face any country and their chances with democracy lie in the current problems. Not only is it important to recognize these problems but also address possible solutions. Once the issues, historical and current, facing the Philippines are addressed then it becomes apparent why the country not represent a true democracy, but also why it will take much time before it does.…
