Political Viewpoints
In the American Government, a two party-system dominates the political landscape, consisting of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. On the political spectrum, Democrats are considered to be on the ‘left’ which means they favor more liberal viewpoints. In contrast, the Republican Party is on the ‘right’, and tend to have more conservative-leaning ideology on issues. When it comes to my political viewpoints, I believe they align the best with the Republican Party. I see myself as a Republican due to my upbringing from my parents and witnessing the success of the party.
I see myself as a Republican because of my upbringing by my parents. Growing up, my parents would remind me of where they came from, and the struggle they went through to get where they are today. Both my parents immigrated to this country with very little money in their pockets. But that did not matter to them, because they knew that there was a greater wealth ahead, in that of the land of opportunity. They worked diligently to receive an education and get good jobs. I believe it is important to discuss politics with others and take interest in what goes on in our country. I would like to debate others whom have a different viewpoint from me, to see who has a stronger argument and why. Also, it will help to better inform me, and the other debater, on what the candidate of one’s choice stands for. I believe debating politics and recognizing differences is what makes a democracy. If a person wants to stand for something, they must know why and be able to prove why they stand for a particular cause/candidate. I myself will strive to become informed to the best of my ability on the issues and candidates of this election. Watching the news, reading up on politics, and researching on candidates will help me with

    It is very important not to confuse these ideas with contemporary definitions of "Liberal" and "Republican." Classical liberals emphasize individual rights above all, and believe government's only valid purpose is to enable individuals to be as free as they can be. They are suspicious of arguments about the good of the group, fearing restrictions on their ability to seek the good life as they define it. "Small-r" republicans, meanwhile, can also be found all over the American political map. Etymology gets us quickly to republicanism's core: "republic" comes from the Latin phrase res publica, "public thing," and indeed republicans tend to imagine the "body politic" to be a real entity. Citizens form that body together, and our actions make it healthy or sick. Where liberals believe the self-interested, rights-bearing individual going her own way is the democratic ideal, republicans argue that self-government can only work if citizens develop specific civic virtues, and learn to act in a public-spirited way. The idea at the heart of republicanism, then, is virtue. On the right, advocates of a greater role for religion in American public life believe spiritual values will make the country strong; on the left, supporters of big increases in education spending believe the public schools can and must build responsible citizens if American democracy is to succeed.…

Gail Russell Chaddock, a writer of The Christian Science Monitor, states, “Democrats favor targeted stimulus -- investments in infrastructure, clean energy, and education -- while hiking taxes on corporations and the rich to fund this jobs spending.     Republicans are considered to be to the right side of the poltitical spectrum and Democrats are considered to be to the left. The right side is generally pro-religion, anti-bureaucracy, pro-military, pro-business and pro-personal responsibility. All the way to the far left of the spectrum are the extreme liberals also called extreme Democrats. Republicans see government as wasteful and an obstacle to getting things done.     The Cold War was an important event in the history of the United States during the 20th Century. Like World War 2, and other events in American history, it reshaped the world in various ways.     The term political moderate can generally be used to describe someone who doesn't hold views on the far edges of the political spectrum. Moderates can be known to possess lower levels of political information and less likely be politically engaged than those who are closer to one of the ideological poles.     Political View

    My first political view was formed through my family. Although politics weren't really discussed with children, I eavesdropped in the conversations from time to time. I would hear how they liked one candidate over the other due to the issues they stood for. By overhearing my parents, I learned which issues were favored in my community. Those I grew up around were democrats. I heard a lot about needing officials in office that cared about the people instead of money. Learning about government in school growing up allowed those views learned from my parents to be challenged. Although the curriculum was generally unbiased, the teachers that taught my courses had the opportunity to add their own opinions on a mass amount of political issues. This changed my mind on the democratic views that I had. The media has also influenced me through the information I have gained through it. Television and social media often discusses a lot of politics. They continue to cover the daily activities of the government. The presidential election is covered on the news as high priority. I am able to learn about the candidates that are running and each of their views. Because I don't try to associate myself with a particular political party, the televised debates help me decided who to vote for president. Although my family, teachers, and the media has been a big influence on my political views, my own experiences with politics have formed my views the most. A lot of my life’s experiences have been affected by politics. Issues such as education and employment are big ticket items in politics that I am directly affected by.
