I told him to give me a second while I grab my things and I will be right in to talk with him. I reintroduced myself to Christian as I had done previously at the jail. I explained to him that I am an investigator with the Muskogee Police Department and I am going to talk to him about why he is here. I stated that prior to speaking with him; I am going to read him his rights. This way he would be informed of his rights prior to talking with me. I also told him should he change his mind about wanting a cup of water or coffee to let me know and I would gladly go and get…

My first interviewee officers jack Davidson, patrolman from Somers point police department. When interviewing Patrolman Davidson, I found the following to be his impressions of the police force in general. Officer Davidson spoke of why ethics and character are important in the field of law enforcement. His response was that ethics and character go hand in hand. In law enforcement it seems that there are so many reasons to do the right thing. The reasons began with public opinion and also should include their influence on the youth who will be growing up to be citizens of the city, state, or country. If a police officer does not behave with good character he is not a good example, and may, in fact, become a bad example for a child to believe is acceptable. To uphold the law, one must be able to look above all the things that could influence them to behave poorly. If an officer allows someone to change their outlook in a negative way, whether it is a criminal, a family member, or even another police officer, then they are not displaying good character. Ethics are as important, if not more important, than character. One can display an incredible character, but when it comes time to follow the rules of ethics, the temptations of simple favors by the law-abiding citizens of the community can sway an officer’s choices, and can cause them to make a poor choice. Even the slightest favor from someone can lead to a dangerous future occurrence. If a citizen provides freebies for a police officer, then the officer is expected to provide special favors for the citizen. This can be expected in forms of protection, additional police presence, or even something disreputable like fixing a ticket, or letting them off with a warning instead of a ticket. Most people do not give things without expecting something in return. When Officer Davidson was asked if he felt that police officers…

Practice was over after dark and I and my brothers were on our way home, when out of nowhere we heard “there they go lets getem, lets string them up” we started running for our lives. We felt that if we made to the military base we would be safe, but the eleven or so white assailants had other ideas. They cut off our exit to freedom. The next move was to find somewhere safe other than the base. I had a friend at school named Jessie and I knew where he live so we ran there. His mother opened the door to see three little black boys standing scared out of their minds. She asked what was wrong and I told her they were chasing us. She came out on the porch with her shotgun full rock salt and cleared the corner. Jessie’s mom then took us to the entry point of base. We thanked her and went home. After that night it was really hard to be outside after dark with worrying about be chased or being hung.…

I was on a roll, I was about to go chill with my friends and go looking for girls. It was a win-win situation. As I approached a stop sign on Palmer St. it hit me. There he was, a Los Angeles County Sheriff. I knew in my head he was looking right at me. So I tried my best to not look suspicious but I was so nervous. It was my turn to cross the intersection; it was the moment of truth. The only thing running through my mind was, hoping that I didn't get pulled over. So, I tried my best to cross the intersection by the book. I stopped behind the line, looked left-right-left, waited three seconds, and then finally made my move. I thought…
