On the household level, an ever-increasing number of people are opting to plant wildflower as opposed to planting exotic cultivars.
However, getting the process of planting the wildflower right can somewhat turn out to be daunting. I grew up in the "Land of Lincoln" in a rural town near Springfield, Illinois. It had always been common knowledge that it was on January 1, 1863 that Abraham Lincoln freed all slaves with his Emancipation Proclamation. Though, it had never occurred to me that this was not the case in Texas. It was not until June 19, 1865 when the Union General Gordon Granger arrived at Galveston, Texas with the good news. His first order of business in Galveston was to read the General Order Number 3 to the people of Texas freeing the last 250, 000 slaves, which read as follows:…

    * Warm season grasses grow best in southern regions. The main growing period for warm-season grass is in the summer when soil temperature is between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the air temperature is 80 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Warm-season grasses become dormant with the onset of cooler weather. The degree of tolerance of warm-season grasses varies by cultivar, but many turn straw-colored or light brown after the first frost. Texas has a rich and long history and much of it has passed through the state over the years to become a part of its folklore. This Texas folklore is part of many cultures within the state and has even filtered outside the state. The first cultural influence on Texas was from the Paleo-American Indians. When these Indians arrived they were in a bit of a culture shock when they met the Spanish in the 16th century. In the following centuries, more people began to arrive in Texas and they brought new ways of talking, believing and doing things. The Spanish and the Mexican set the patterns south of Nueces and along the Rio Grande. Anglos brought their ways of life from the British Isles to the South and Eastern part of Texas. African Americans who came to work on the plantations on the Brazos and Trinity bottoms brought songs, stories and beliefs that came with them from Africa. Germans came directly from the Old World to the Hill Country, Cajuns came from France and eventually through Louisiana and settled in Southeast Texas. The Dutch, Danes, Polish, Czechs, Norwegians who also came here brought with them their ways of life and they all became bound together to become part of Texas. By the year 2000, Texas was…

Each one of the flowers mentioned–primrose, oxlips, marigolds, lark's heel– all correspond with a season of the year respectively, beginning from spring with primrose. The aforementioned plant is typically the first perennial associated with the coming of spring, thus being the "harbinger" of spring. Oxlips blossom during late spring or early summer. Marigolds flourish in the heat of the hot sun, taking root from late summer to early autumn; saying they "blow on death-beds" insinuates that the speaker believes they have a sort of mystical sense to them, untouchable yet used to honor and show respect to the deceased. Larkspur, or as Shakespeare called it, lark's heel, is a prominent cool-season flower, and does well in the winter but dies under the heat of the summer sun. The splendor of flowers is not limited to any one time of year. Instead, several different types of flowering plants bloom all year-round, thus allowing their elegance to be enjoyed at any…
