Pistorius Trial
Oscar Pistorius Trial
The trial of Oscar Pistorius for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp and several gun-related charges (The State vs. Oscar Pistorius) in the Hin Pretoria commenced on March 3, 2014. Oscar Pistorius is a double amputee leading South African runner, who won attention as an athlete with a disability competing at a high level, including multiple Paralympic games and the 2012 Summer Olympics. Pistorius was arguably a South African legend until this story reveled itself about him shooting and killing Reeva Steenkamp, a model, and his girlfriend. On Valentines Day in the early morning of Thursday, February 14, 2013, Steenkamp was shot and killed by Pistorius at his Pretoria home. Pistorius acknowledges that he shot Steenkamp to death and says that he mistook her for an intruder and opened fire upon self-defense to protect him. Pistorius was taken into police custody and was formally charged with murder in a Pretoria court on February 15, 2013.
Pistorius’s argument is that he shot his wife Steenkamp as an act of defense thinking she was an intruder and fired his gun in the bathroom unconsciously. Saying that he comes from a history of violence and he loved his girlfriend and would never take her life. Also saying that he did not have his legs on at the time of the shooting but a lot of evidence found by the South African Police Service proves otherwise. Pistorius is in an non jury trial and all decisions will be made by the prosecutor as he faces one of the toughest prosecutors in South Africa.
On February 25, 2014, Judge President Dunstan Mlambo ruled in the High Court in Pretoria that the entire trial may be broadcast live via audio and that parts of the trial may be broadcast live via television, namely the opening and closing arguments, the testimony of consenting state witnesses, the judgment, and the sentencing if applicable. The media such as ESPN, TIME, ABC, CNN and likes of a few other big name media got ahold to the case due to the fame

The case went to trial in the summer of 2013, and in July of that year, the trial jury let Zimmerman free of all charges. The prosecutor in charge was Doug Gansler, Muhammad waived his right to counsel and decided to represent himself, soon after giving his opening statement he requested his right to counsel. The prosecution decided to bring up charges including murder, conspiracy, terrorism, conspiracy, and illegal use of a firearm (Clark Prosecutor). The evidence the prosecution provided included more than 130 eye witnesses and 400 pieces of evidence that shows that Muhammad made Malvo commit the shootings. The defense argued to drop the capital punishment charge on Muhammad for lack of evidence that Muhammad pulled the trigger because the finger prints that were on the rifle belonged to Malvo. Muhammad argued that because he did not pull the trigger that killed Dean Meyer, then moved to remove the death penalty charges.…

The verdict of this case in my opinion is guilty but insane. I believe he knew that the action was wrong as he admitted that he had the premeditation to kill the police officer as well getting rid of his weapon. To me this indicated that he knew his actions were wrong, plus by fleeing the scene. If I were ruling this case, I would recommend that this particular criminal be admitted to an institution so he can be treated and…

Ultimately, this shows the way that news coverage can actually mislead the public, even online. Because much of the content that populated searches was either as sensationalistic as that on television or focused on the coverage itself, rather than the facts and legal issues within the case, people believe that some terrific miscarriage of justice occurred. While that may be the case, if the access to the right information had been more refined, then perhaps people would understand how the verdict rendered by the jury is reasonable based on the actual evidence with which they were presented, and thus they had to acquit even if they thought Anthony was guilty of something. Through improved seos, those looking for information…

February 26, 2012 marked the day that the innocent minor, Trayvon Martin, was shot to his death in a gated neighborhood in Sanford, Florida. The shooter, George Zimmerman, still has not faced any serious consequence for the murder. Many people in the Sanford community, and even around the country, believe that there is no question that Zimmerman should be convicted and sent to jail, but, unfortunately, it is not up to the people; it is up to the justice system. With the consideration of Florida’s state laws, this is a difficult case to foresee the outcome of George Zimmerman’s conviction and prosecution.…

I dissaree with the stand your ground law, becaues of the case of trayvon Martin. George Zimmerman says Trayvon Martin attacked him and shot him from self-defence( trayvon was an unarmed man). The Stand Your Ground Law states that if you are attacked or feel like your in danger, you had the right to kill that person. This is like saying if some one almost pushed me off the edge of a clif while running,i have the right to push them off that same clif leaving them dead. Although the stand your ground law help people defend them selves in life thretining situations, it gives a murderer a reason to kill innocent people. On the day trayvon martin died, he was on the phone with his girlfriend. she clames he saw a man following him and started to run. She also says he got away form a man,who turn out to be Zimmerman, but only temporaily Eventruly he stoped running, because he was close to the house he was staying in. when Zimmerman got closer to Trayvon, stated the girlfriend, Travon called out, "Why you following me for?" "I hear this man, like this old man, say, 'What are you doing around here?' " the girl said. The girl said she called out to Martin, asking what was happening, but he didn't answer. The next thing she heard was a bumping sound, followed by what might have been a scuffle. "I could hear it a little bit, 'Get off, get off,' then the phone just hung up," the girl said. This is some evidence that proves Zimmerman is guilty.…

There was an abundance of evidence recovered by police and the prosecuting attorney that really makes you think about how in the world this man was set free. For instance, there was a bloody shoe found around the crime scene but not just any shoe, it was a size 12 Bruno Magli shoe, a relatively rare Italian-made model. It just so happens that O.J. Simpson wears a size 12. It also happens to be a coincidence that, according to the prosecuting attorney, O.J. Shopped at this particular store that often sold this brand of shoe.…

The O.J. Simpson trial was one of the most recognizable cases in American history. It went on for nine months. There were 11 lawyers representing the O.J. and 25 working around the clock for the largest prosecutor's office in the country. The opinion of the Jury was for the defense, not guilty. I agree with them. It would have been crazy if O.J. was convicted because the evidence was not properly handled or accounted for, the main police officer handling the case was a racist man and the defendant was black. And people who were testifying on the prosecutor's defense were proven to be lying under oath.…
