Piggy's Monologue
As I stood up, I felt a rush of blood to my cheeks and saw my glasses fogging up. The teacher had asked me to come with her, after punishing another child. Was I in trouble too? Though I could be in trouble, I walked toward the teacher. As I followed my teacher out of the classroom, I saw that her expression was grim. We walked until we were outside, and then we stopped and stood there in silence for a long moment. Eventually, she spoke. “Piggy, I hate to tell you this, but-” She paused, and I could see that she was near tears, “I know you have not seen your mother in a while as she has been in the quarantine chamber of the hospital, but she has entered the 4th stage of leukemia and is not expected to live through the night. I am so sorry, Piggy.” …show more content…
I awoke in my bed at Aunt Dana’s house. Once she saw that I was awake, she rushed toward me as I bombarded her with a stream of questions. “Auntie, is she really dead? What happened to me? Was it an asthma attack? Could you give me my glasses? Is-” “SHHH!” said my aunt. “ Calm down Ronald. Here are your glasses. Your mother is not dead yet, but I’m afraid she will be soon. I wish that you were able to see her again, but the doctors will not permit it, as he fears that seeing her may frighten you. Upon hearing she was nearer to death, you had an asthma attack and blacked out. Now, as I expect you are hungry, let’s go to my sweet-shop for something to eat. Perhaps eating some sweets will take your mind off of this.” Normally, eating sweets would take my mind off of things, but this time it didn’t. As we ate dinner, I found that I could barely eat. Aunt Dana tried cheering me up, but had no success. Once we got home, I went straight to bed even though it was only 6:00. That night I dreamt of the last time I saw my mother.

Dear Diary, today is the morning after Piggy was killed from the falling bolder. Ralphs tribe, which I am a member of, went to castle rock where Jacks tribe lives. We were up there because early yesterday Jack stormed our shelters and stole our fire and Piggy’s glasses. When we went to confront Jack and his tribe a fight escalated between Jack and Ralph. From above Roger shoved an enormous bolder that pushed Piggy over a cliff and killed him. Piggy was very altruistic and unfeigned towards most everyone on the island. I was horrified by the sight of what happened to Piggy and haven’t slept all night. I’m hungry and tired and want to go home to my father and sister. This island adventure is not fun anymore.…

She remembered watching that same life pass out of her as she heaved her last, and how it had not been quiet and tranquil as movies and books made dying moments out to be. Her soul had passed on, and her body was no longer hers.…
