PETA: For or Against Animals
Animals are vulnerable and helpless and are completely at the disposal of human beings and sometimes human beings abuse and neglect those same animals. In their natural environment animals behave instinctively depending on their necessities and preferences, for that reason in the animal kingdom there is the notion of rights. When we talk about the rights of animals, we refer to the limitations in the treatment of animals by human beings. The relationship between human beings and the animals shows itself in many ways. For that reason the way that we relate to them and the rights that we attribute to them have to have an ethical basis. Based upon the need for ethical animal treatment in the presence of human beings, PETA (People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals) was formed in 1980. The mission of PETA is to protect the prosperity and safety of the animals as well as defend them against any abuse or cruelty. “PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other "pests" as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.”("Mission Statement," n.d.) This endeavor should require the highest of any business ethical standards of which PETA clearly violated in 2005. Since 1998, PETA has opted to "put down" over 25,000 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding them "forever homes" and in 2005, PETA was found guilty for killing animals in the State of North Carolina. After completing an investigation and finding more than 90 dead animals, authorities arrested two PETA employees who were responsible for dumping those animals in the

Animals deserve rights because just like humans, they feel excruciating pain, suffer and have feelings. One would argue that animals don’t experience emotions? But the answer is of course they do. It is emotions that allow animals to display various behavior patterns. According to the theory of utilitarianism, all sentient beings should be given consideration in the society and this includes both animals and humans. Also, animals cannot speak for themselves and for this reason they should be treated equally, protected and given the same respect as human beings. Peter singer’s approach also supports the argument on equal consideration in that animals deserve the same respect as human beings but just in a different view. In today’s society humans exploit animals for milk, meat, fur, scientific experimentation etc. and animals are constantly injured or killed. Their pain and sufferings should be taken into consideration, as this unjust treatment is morally unacceptable. Similarly speciesism is an…

PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. While they may say they fight for animal rights, many of their actions suggest far from it. Almost 97% of the animals that they liberate from facilities are euthanized. Most of the animals are killed within 24 hours of being brought to a PETA shelter. Why? Because most PETA members believe that an animal would rather be dead than be a pet.…

Animals contribute in many ways to our world. We seem to take for granted the benefits animals can have on us. The benefits animals have on our earth shouldn’t be taken for granted. Without animals, our earth would not receive the essential nutrients it needs to flourish. Establishing animal rights will give animals the love and respect that they’ve always deserved. Animal are not pieces of meat, they are a vital resource to the nutriment of our earth. We have been given the power to protect animals and give them rights of their own. We should not ignore the needs of animals. Animals have benefited us in ways no human can. It is our moral duty as humans to take a stand for animals and give them the rights they deserve. At this very moment animals are being abused and carelessly slaughtered. Now is the time to end the abuse of animals and give them the rights that benefits us…

Animals from creation have been an essential integral part of human beings. They have frequently been, either directly or indirectly, used by humans to achieve their needs. Hence they are important part and great asset to humans. These animals do have lives different from that of humans and equally have some similar characteristics with humans like emotional feelings. This very fact puts humans in a difficult position of determining the amount of respect and regard that should be accorded to the animals. Some people agitate that animals should be granted same equal rights as human beings. Inasmuch as I quite agree that animals should be granted some rights in order to be free from cruel treatments by humans, the issue of granting them equal full rights as enjoyed by humans should not come up. An objective review of such factors as tradition, cultural believes, religious, socio-economic, and medical as well as salient natural features that distinguish animals from humans like morality, and ability to…

    Taking a Stand Against Peta

“We love all animals, it’s just people we’re not too crazy about,” is a comment made by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) (Fegan 1). This outrageous comment insinuates PETA puts animals’ rights before the rights and needs of humans, which is not the way nature intended. The PETA organization has been around since 1980 affectively with their hyped-up, illogical stories of how we need to treat animals as equals and grant them rights that only we, as humans, should enjoy. These are assumptions and claims which are used to further their cause and are not founded in reality. Contradictory to PETA’s beliefs, animals should not have the same rights as humans, because that is the law of nature. According to Erasmus Darwin, who stated “Such is the condition of organic nature! whose first law might be expressed in the words 'Eat or be eaten!”. (Science Quotes by Erasmus Darwin) I do not intend to condemn animal rights activists, since people are entitled to their own opinions, but rather discuss why this way of life may be harmful to themselves and others.…

Documentation has proved that PETA has killed more than 36,000 animals since 1998 (PKA). The organization runs an animal shelter in Virginia, in which some years the rate of euthanization exceeds 97 percent (Activist Facts). In an article written by The Huffington Post, an ex-employee of PETA describes how the current CEO encourages its employees to kidnap and murder pets, then falsify the records that follow. Ingrid Newkirk often authorized PETA employees to steal pets and kill them immediately after. On PETA’s website, they state that they have to do the task of euthanization of animals that are unable to be adopted out due to illness, behavioral issues, or the animal is at its deathbed. However, according to the employee, animals that were…

Animal cruelty is a huge issue in America. Animals everyday are beaten, starved, and abandoned. But one of the biggest problems of all is what pet stores are doing and getting away with it. Everyday bird's wings are clipped, cats are declawed, and most animals in these stores are from mass-breeding facilities called puppy mills.…

Most people think that pet stores are the best places to buy pets. So then the question becomes does animal abuse happen in pet stores? Animal cruelty is many different things; no food and water, too small of cages, not getting baths, and not getting attention. If people want to save animals, they definitely need to know what PETA is, many of the people that I got questionnaires back from didn’t even know what PETA is. Although some people blame PETA for not being involved, the pet stores should be to blame because they get the animals from “animal mills”.…

PETA was founded 25 years ago in order to protect the rights of animals, specifically in places where they are commonly abused (laboratories, food-producing factories, the clothing and entertainment industries). Over the years, they have used the power of language to achieve success through informative films, speeches, public education, advertising etc…. In order for any organization to have power and influence, it must first discover and follow the idea of "strength in numbers," gathering as many followers as possible. One way that they attract many members is by exploiting the presence of pity, which becomes present, for example, after witnessing one of their shockingly graphic films in which animals are slaughtered and tortured. They also…

In today's society, the number of cases regarding animal cruelty is skyrocketing to the point that I wonder if there is no way to truly protect animals' rights. I believe that animals have not legal rights, but ethical rights, and that they deserve to be guaranteed such rights. These rights are being breached when people exploit them for money. I want to be a person that strives for the implementation of animals' rights and welfare by minimizing such unethical behavior.…
