Over the years I've gradually reduced my sugar consumption - but I haven't totally eliminated it. I'm not prepared to 'throw the baby out with the bath water', as the saying goes. My goal is reduction and moderation not total elimination.
Where I used to 'need' a spoonful of sugar in a cup of tea. Now it's less than 1/8 of one in a large cup. And sometimes I forget to add it at all - and don't notice until I'm almost done the cup. Hmmm. Do I really need it or has it just become a habit?
Nonetheless, even that is progress!

For those of us with a sweet tooth cutting back on sugar can be challenging. In fact, if you do a Google search on 'sugar related health risks' you'll pull up some pretty scary and compelling information on why we should reduce the amount of sugar we consume.
Here are a few small ways to reduce sugar reasonably:
Read the ingredients when buying processed foods. If any of the following appear close to the top of the list: sugar, sucrose, glucose, fructose, dextrose, lactose, maltose or corn syrup, chances are the sugar content is quite high. Consider other products to see if you can find one(s) with less sugar.
Gradually reduce the amount of sugar in tea and coffee. A small reduction can pave the way for further reductions and result in less sugar being sweet enough over time.
Gradually reduce the amount of sugar called for when baking - including The Lazy Chef recipes! If you find you need more sweetness consider adding fruit e.g. bananas, raisins, dates, apples, etc. to give you the sweetness needed.
