Persuasive Essay On Trans Fats
There are trans fats everywhere in the foods we eat everyday. If something we eat doesn't have a trans fat then it probably has a saturated fat. Baked goods, cookies, cakes, and frozen foods have high levels of trans fats. Things that are incorporated into almost everyone's diets. We can't completely eliminate trans fats AND saturated fats without taking away many foods that everyone enjoys. Restaurants would more than likely lose more business than they already are in this recession. Yes, it may be healthy to get rid of them but would it really be smart? I get that we want to help people from dying but what someone does to their body is their choice. I don't think anyone has the right to interfere with that. Except family and close friends.

Celebrated author and TV personality Julia Child once joked: “Always remember: If you're alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb, you can always just pick it up. Who's going to know?” Kitchen practices in relation to food health and safety, in truth, have been evolving. Microbial activities, including bacterial benefits and detriments, have been undergoing a huge amount of demystification. A number of practices and measures believed to be safe - even healthy - in the past have been proved otherwise. A few of these have been compiled by food microbiologist and Food Safety Information Council vice president Cathy Moir:…

Young people are more eager to try new things that will give them a feeling unlike one they have experienced before, in other words a high. If smoked it has a different effect on the body than it does if you use it for medical reasons. Cannabis oil which is concentrated cannabis extracts is becoming a popular medicine for patients with cancer, glaucoma, and seizures. ¨Evidence has shown cannabinoids to be capable, under some conditions, of inhibiting the development of cancer cells¨ (Hazekamp). Cannabis oil isn't smoked, it is in an oil form which does not cause lung problems in the future. People taking cannabis oil are not using it for the high, they use it to “cure” or to help slow down their diagnosis. Taking cannabis oil doesn’t necessarily help the diagnosis either but in some situations it helps to gain your appetite back, it helps the person to sleep, and it also helps prevent being nauseous (Hazekamp). Although it is illegal in many states which makes it hard to give this treatment to many people. If given to children in states where it is illegal the parents can get in trouble and even have their children taken away. Many states look at the negative effects it has on the body by smoking it. However they haven’t looked at the positive effects it has on the body through the cannabis oil (Hazekamp).…

The objective that I chose from the Healthy People 2020 Objectives was to increase the proportion of genetic testing. This is a new objective, having not been included in Healthy People 2010. The genomics discipline is a budding field and it concerns the study of an individual’s genome. Genomics uses knowledge of the molecular source of a disease in order to help predict, treat and quantify the likelihood of disease reoccurrence.…

“Have it your way”, A slogan that I saw one Friday afternoon. I was relaxing, watching television one day when I saw that commercial of one fast food company named Jack in the Box. Upon watching the commercial and knowing all the truths behind these fast food companies, I questioned couple of things that they advertise. After reading the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, I became fully aware that Jack and the Box and any other fast food chains are merely business owners and what do they really have it the consumers way is really a bold and brainwashing statement, but behind what they really wanted is to have it their way – its business and its first agenda is to earn money.…

Everyone has heard school lunch horror stories, pulling the lunch lady’s facial hair out of a half-eaten cheese sandwich or worse pulling it out of your mouth, but many wonder what really goes on in a public school’s cafeteria. As a future educational professional my greatest goal is students’ success. An important part of children’s success has to do with them being prepared to be successful. They need to be prepared emotionally as well as physically. Having a healthy and fulfilling breakfast and lunch are key parts to this preparation.…

Living in the heart of the western American mountains, meat plays a big role in the generic lifestyle. Many families obtain their meats through recreational hunting, and fishing. Turning twelve in our community means that, you can now get your hunting license and go out with dad every weekend starting in September. It is safe to say that more than the majority of the families that live within the Bitterroot Valley consume a high percentage of meat, every day, for nutritional benefits as well as personal preference. It is the generic ‘western American’ thing to do, sit down with the family on a Sunday afternoon, say grace and eat a burger. One of the biggest holidays around, Thanksgiving, revolves around the harvesting, and consumption of meat. However there is another lifestyle that I feel is important to consider. If I could make a change in my community, big or small, I would choose to provide more vegetarian and vegan options for families to work into their lifestyles.…

Today in the world we live in, 25% of white children are overweight and 33% of African American children are overweight. Those numbers are staggering. Also about 45% of all diabetes cases diagnosed in children are as a result of obesity. We all live in a very hectic world, and I realize that. Everyone has somewhere to be, weather it be work or a social event and to be honest, we really don't take care of our kids. It is found more and more that we as a society don't get our children involved. Less and less, do they have the opportunity to enjoy a basketball game because mom and dad don't have the time while they are at work, trying to hold down the mortgage and all the taxes. The PTA's around the country are getting fewer and fewer volunteers because people don't want to get involved. We have stopped wanting to raise our kids, and we pass the job off to a daycare or a nanny. Everyone knows that's no substitute for a parents love. It was said that in a study done, that the number one cause of child obesity was ‘insufficient expenditure of calories through a physical activity'. Soon following was ‘excessive snacking, having a fast food diet, and family behaviors'…
