Did you know that the average person generates 4 pounds of garbage a day and 1.5 tons a year? And 70% of our dumps are recyclable? This is a huge problem because the landfills are getting full. If they get too full, we have to find a new area and pay larger bills. Here in America, we only recycle 5% of our plastic products. We used enough bottles to wrap around the Earth 190 times. 5% of that is a very little amount. It takes 47 million gallons of oil to produce enough bottles for the US in one year. If we were to recycle more, we wouldn’t have to use all of this energy. Also, paper bags aren’t being recycled. In 2009, an estimated 100 billion paper bags were used and 99.4% were in landfills. One 15 year old tree could produce only about 700.

You may think that it really isn’t important and there is no reason to do it. But there is. You might have to pay more money in the future if our landfills get too full. If you were to recycle, you wouldn't have to pay money and we wouldn’t be wasting anything. You also might be too lazy to get up and throw you plastic bottle in the recycling bin. You would probably throw it in the garbage right next to you. To solve this, you could put a recycling bin next to all your garbage bins. That way, you don’t have to go outside and put your recycling in the recycling bin outside. Another reason you wouldn’t want to recycle is nobody else recycles so why should you. As a resident of the Earth, it is our job to keep the Earth clean. A major way of doing that is to recycle. If you know someone that doesn’t recycle, tell them reasons why they should. And make sure they get the message out to their friends as well. Lastly, you might not want to recycle because you don’t even know what to recycle. It is a very simple solution.
