Many colleges think they can just do what they want in the sense of rules on campus, which is just about right, but they can only go so far. Due to the second amendment it states that we as humans have the right to bare arms, which means we can carry weapons but with the right permits. So colleges can go ahead and make rules as to guns on campus but according to the amendment anyone that is of the age and is allowed to can carry a gun on them in public. Weather or not they use it in a safe matter is the problem that comes up. But most students on campus that carry theses guns have been through thorough background checks and piles of paper work to be able to do so. Therefore carrying a gun on campus is legal but to an extent but these students should be monitored and have a close eye on them, because you never know what is going on in there…

How safe are students on campus? Today, many universities state-wide are gun free and considered safe locations. According to David Skorton and Glenn Altschuler's article, "Do We Really Need More Guns On Campus?," "colleges and universities are far safer than most public spaces in the United States." However, there are others who believe colleges would be safer with concealed gun carry. A group, Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, who goes against this idea argues in their article "College Campuses Are Less Safe Without Concealed Weapons" that a professor that is licensed shouldn’t be obligated to be a victim when they have the right to defend themselves. The argument doesn't mention how permitted gun carry would only possibly stop shootings…

Guns in classrooms? Yes. Guns at sporting events? No. The administrators use these as examples of places that will be marked armed and unarmed zones at the University of Texas. Fifty years ago the first mass shooting at an American college took place. The University of Texas experienced a mass shooting when a student shot 45 people, killing 14 of them, from the clock tower (Gubler). In the New York Times article “Philosophizing With Guns” Simone Gubler talks about the “campus carry” bill that will come into effect on the 50th anniversary for Texas colleges. This bill will allow students to carry guns with them, in certain areas, on campus. Gubler is uncertain about letting students carry guns on campus, and I have some of the same concerns about the situation.…

More guns on campus or not? There is a huge controversy about guns on college campuses. Recent studies show how blocking student’s ability to carry a firearm makes colleges and universities some of the safest places in the United States. Depending on an individual’s views, there are many arguments that can be made for both sides of the controversy. My personal views on guns and concealed carry are the total opposite. Having learned about firearms at a young age along with training and practicing for years. I have learned how to handle them and use them proficiently. Having guns on campus would help deter an active shooter. A college or university would no longer be known as a gun free zone. Increases in suicides are of a big concern but I believe…

Major and minor causes collectively led up to this event and bring up the question of whether or not this tragedy could have been prevented. The NRA play a key part in the debate over gun control, and parents play a vital role in instilling future generations with respect for handguns and being involved in their lives. Though there is room to consider a grey area guns continue to be the instruments used to sow sorrow resulting…

Also, in many campus shootings, professors and students could not defend themselves because those campuses were regulated to be gun-free areas. Though gun-free areas are designed to be safe zones, these shooting sprees show that they are not always safe. In fact, only criminals take advantage of such rules (Burnett). I agree with the idea that professors and students should be permitted to carry guns on campus to protect themselves.…

Just like the mass shooting that has been happening over the years, sometimes it’s good to have a gun because some of the mass shooting that have happened a civilian had to kill the shooter just because the civilian had a gun on him or her at the time, so there are some pros and cons to having a gun. It’s sometimes good for a student to have a weapon because back in 2002, there was students that stopped a mass shooting before it got out of hands and another reason why the law should crack down on guns because for an example I lost my little brother over an accidental shooting. (Should more gun control laws be enacted?,…

Some reasons why colleges should look at the laws that they put in place and try to change them. Students should have the right to conceal weapons on college campuses. The guns provide the protection that may be necessary in certain situations. Like the Virginia Tech Shooting, many people could have been saved if only one person had a gun. Having a gun gives a sense of safety to many people on the campus, especially for women with a greater risk of intruders and rapists. For these women, knowing that they have a way to defend themselves can set their minds to ease. Though some believe that the allowance of guns would increase violence on campus, no other college that has allowed concealed firearms has had an issue. Another concerning issue would be that having guns on campus would be easier for students to commit suicide; there are just some things in life that authorities cannot control, and that is one of them. The right to have a concealed weapon on campus should be conveyed freely.…
