Persuasive Essay On All Year Round School
Mrs. Dawson
All year round school at QMS Why do we have school for 9 months straight and then lose all of the knowledge we learned because we are too busy swimming in the pool and not caring about the date of World War 2? Students should have school all year round because we can learn so much more, we won’t have to remember everything we learned from 3 months ago, and relationships between students and teachers will be much stronger. If we have school all year round kids will be learning 3 extra months of knowledge and more is better. Kids will be smarter and when applying to highschool and college they will be more likely to succeed , and every parent wants to see their child succeed in life. As soon as school lets out for Summer break, students forget everything they learn and care more about who can make the biggest cannonball, and eventually all that knowledge will just fall down the drain, having school all year round at QMS means no more knowledge wasted.
Lastly, In middle school and highschool, kids and teachers relationships aren’t very strong and knowing and liking your teacher can lead to knowing and liking the subject you are learning, and extra time can grow those relationships, and it can also grow the relationships of you and your friends. Students are best served in a traditional school system. Just imagine what it would be like to have to go to school in the middle of what would be a traditional year round summer vacation. That is a reality for thousands of kids across the United States. This is why I believe that the traditional school system is more beneficial than a year round system. Year round schools have disruptive schedules, the day amounts end up being the same in year round and traditional school and, year round schools cost more to maintain and run year round.…

The traditional schedule for school is outdated because in the old days, it allowed for children to help harvest crops during the summer. Now, the long summer just enables kids to be lazy and easily forget what they learned at the end of the previous school year. If a year round school year were to be implemented, kids would not be able to be as lazy and breaks would not be so long as to let kids forget a whole bunch of their school curriculum.…

Child care is one of the major issues. Children in year-round school have more frequent breaks and parents do not get time off from work to be with them. Therefore, those parents who have young children have to find a sitter or daycare to watch their child. Another disadvantage is that it may cost the school more money to operate year-round. For example, most school corporations end around May and resume around August, those months the air-conditioner is not being used. Year-round schooling would be in session during those months where the temperatures are increased, causing the school to run the air-conditioner more…

One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

For instance, the unique scheduling allows teachers to avoid being overworked, while also allowing families to pick the program that works best for them. When most student are asked about year-round school they think it means giving up their summer, but that’s not exactly right. Year-round school doesn’t necessarily mean giving up summer vacation. There are variety of calendars school districts follow. The current school year is based on an outdated agricultural model, when families need to use their children to help them with a harvest. Most families aren’t like that anymore. It’s time to update the school calendar to reflect modern society. Year-round schooling calendar would be beneficial to students.…

One of the major points for year round schooling is that students would learn more because they would be in the classroom more often. This however, has been proven to be false, as a 2007 Ohio State University study stated that students in year-round schools do not learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools (Long). Schools with a year-round system often use it in an attempt to eliminate the lose of knowledge that can occur over the summer months, but this can also happen to students in year-round schools, as some have breaks that last over a month. This can be more than enough time for students to forget what they have learned. While the year-round schooling is often incorporated to help accommodate more students in schools that struggle with overcrowding, the change ends up making both teachers and parents struggle more than they would in a normal schedule. Year-round schooling would mean that the teachers would have to constantly be at work teaching a class of students, all year round, with little to no breaks. Parents would also have to be running their children around a lot more, especially during the summer…

It may sound logical but Dr Von Hippel has debunked this myth after completing an experiment. He states, “Students in “year-round” schools don't learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools... A sociologist at Ohio State University found that, over a full year, math and reading test scores improved about the same amount for children in year-round schools as they did for students whose schools followed a traditional nine-month calendar.” There's no academic improvement and on top of that many people believe that year round school is longer than a normal school which is also false. They have the same amount of days as a traditional nine-month high school however Instead they have “tracks”. So track 1 could have school for 3 weeks then they would have vacation for 3 weeks while track 2 has 3 weeks of school after coming back from vacation. This also limits who is seen by who every day if two people’s schedules do not cross. Public students should be given what's best for them. If year-round has no academic improvement then why should summer be taken away? At least summer benefits students with nutrients from the…

In America, most children spend all year wishing that it was summer, so that they do not have to be in school. They could probably never imagine not having those three months to do as they please. Would they be able to survive without it? As it turns out, two million of the nation’s children already do. An extended year-round school calendar would immensely improve the problem areas in the education system, including summer learning loss, the wide range of academic capabilities of students, and providing costly summer care. Jenile Jaquez, an eleven year old who attends year round school, said the following when interviewed by Time for Kids:…
