As with other Disney films pathos usually plays a large role in the film and more times than not is what really tells the message of the film through the characters. In Wall-E our robot friend is shown alone and quite lonely on earth. This creates the initial pathos and connection to our robot as we feel pity for him. This creates a movement already behind the main protagonist and also urges the viewers to hold their friends closer engendering this personal responsibility.
Progressing further into the film Wall-E finds eve and becomes attached to her. This attachment leads to Wall-E’s departure from earth in chase of his newly found friend. At the beginning of the film Earth is trash ridden, uninhabited by the human race centuries ago. This already in itself is depressing and evokes the idea of recycling and being green or else the Earth is doomed. This is implied personal responsibility from the film. In this heap of trash Wall-E finds a budding plant. This is the first sign of life in years on Earth and because of the way that Wall-E and Eve act out of pure joy and passion for this little plant it makes us think how crucial life really is. This employs the idea of personal responsibility for this planet we live on
