Personal Project
Personal Interest Competitive cheerleading has been a big part of my life for ten years now. I have grown to love and become fully committed to the sport, practicing five days a week in the gym. Since cheerleading is a big part of my life, I wanted my Personal Project to be focused around cheerleading as well as giving back to the community. I decided to host a cheering competition and give the proceeds to a charity. The charity that was chosen was the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation. This charity was chosen for a specific reason. The ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation was a local foundation, located in Richmond. There was a young cheerleader who cheered at the same gym as me, diagnosed with cancer. Her strength, courage, and positive attitude while she was living inspired me to do this project. She had such a great impact on so many people, which motivated me to attempt to have an impact on others’ lives who were dealing with the same thing as she did.
Area of Interaction The area of interaction that was focused on was Community and Service. I wanted to give back to my community. I knew that if I tried to give back using something I loved to do, then it would have a higher success rate. I thought of a reasonable way I could contribute to the community. Once I thought of ways that I could contribute, I set a main goal.
The Goal I set three tangible and nontangible goals for myself. The tangible goals: to raise at least $250, to learn how to host an event, and to learn how to fundraise. The nontangible goals: to know I did the best I could possibly do, to host an enjoyable event, and to raise awareness to Childhood Cancer. In order to reach these goals, many steps had to be taken. I had to learn how to host an event, using articles, books, and experts. Then, I had to learn creative ways to fundraise. I then had to use the skills learned to achieve the tangible goals to achieve the intangible goals as well. In order to evaluate my project’s outcome I

Completing this research paper on two careers, a forensic practitioner and baker has changed my plans dramatically. After researching the career as a baker I now know that that is not a job that I would want to pursue. As a baker I don’t feel like I am making much of a difference, baking a cake or bread will not save someone’s life. I want to make a difference in life and help people. Becoming a forensic practitioner I can do that. I found more excitement in researching that career. When I think about choosing a career, I feel it must be something that I could see myself doing and enjoying for the rest of my life. Working in a lab and seeing crime scenes amazes me! I learned a lot of things about both careers. A baker takes his/her time to create products to perfection. They work long hours and have great career advantages. A forensic practitioner works mainly in a lab, sometimes alongside police officers. All of the expectations that I had for this project were fully met. I was pleased to have the opportunity to research both careers, now I know what career fits me and which one doesn’t.…

In the United States wild fires are very common during the dry season also known as summer. Although they are occurring all over the united states I would like to bring your attention to the following states, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Washington and also Idaho. In the past few fire seasons these states have had an increase in the number of fires that have been started due to natural storms and human related accidents. They are becoming more frequent due to the current conditions of the forests and lack of up keep on the vegetation. Along with the growing frequency of these fires the intensity level of the fires are also increasing as a result of the over populated forest. With the ever increasing fire intensity the forest firefighters are in more danger now than ever. To what extent should people begin to be concerned about the growing forest fire problem? People should become concerned when the problem is continuing to escalate and becoming a growing problem. This growing problems is beginning to effect myself first hand due to where I live also with my family members who are in the wildfire fighting field. My oldest brother Chris works for Boise Dispatch, My brother Hoby is on an engine crew in McCall Idaho, My youngest brother works for Pat- Rick fire crew out of Boise Idaho, and lastly my father Dale works for Thunder Mountain Catering. They cater to the firefighters stationed on the larger fires so that they don't have to eat MRE's (Dehydrated meals ready to eat). Also during the fire season the air is thick with a gray haze covering the Treasure valley. This often happens when there are numerous fires burning around the area. Due to the current conditions of the forests these fires are becoming more frequent and also more intense.…

In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…

I was elected as the president of Interact Club during my second year as a result of my dedication and passion to the volunteer services of this organization. Within my school, I advocated and promoted the importance of offering hands-on service projects to local communities. As the leader, I delegated responsibilities to each member of my organization based on their strengths in order to maximize my group’s efficiency in completing the tasks at hand. I initiated an Interact event that involved the volunteers from my region to in collaborate and build a grand Rose float to showcase at the Tournament of Roses Parade. I felt a sense of gratification and accomplishment as the coordinator of this event for directing the members into diligently working together to produce an impressive final float. My active involvement in the Interact organization led me to built upon my leadership and teamwork…

On September 8th 1990, it was a hot sunny day in the city of Cali, Colombia. Temperature around 88°F with very low humidity, normal for that time of year, since the summer was about to begin. A sky full of altocumulus clouds cooled the estimated population of about 1.7 million people ("1990 population estimate for Cali, Colombia."). Among that population there was my mother. Already late for her gynecology appointment, inconveniently causes by a car accident, she would shortly find out when I would be entering the world. The accident turned a 20-minute drive in a 45-minute drive. Rushing into the clinic, as the doctor’s assistant was calling her name, she rapidly was taken to the back to speak with the provider. When the doctor came into the room he calmly said, “I have good news, and bad news”. My mom’s heart already racing she decided to go with the bad news first. “The probability of being a complicated birth is pretty high, which means the surgical team will have to perform a cesarean section instead of a vaginal birth”. My mother relived thinking it would be something much worse she asked the doctor to go ahead with the good news. “The baby will probably be arriving today”. My mom became frantic, “that’s the good news? They might as well both have been bad! My mother panicked, she had nothing ready for the birth, since her first child was not due for another 10 days. Her hormone levels raging at an all time sky high, she shortly began to cry. The doctor and his staff hugged her and reassured her that everything was going to be ok. They quickly rushed her to the hospital where they would have all the equipment in the event that there were any major complications. Once she was all settled in, the operating room staff started to prepare for the birth around 3:15 P.M. The staff thought I was ready to come out, however I took another three hours to make my grand appearance. At 6:23 PM I arrived spreading my arms and legs with a…

My Name is Brittany Larkin and for my senior project I have chosen to do How Music Impacts Drugs on My Community. My motivation for this project is that today’s society has changed over the years, and more and more I see not only some of my fellow classmates, and my friends, but my family members’ usage of drugs impact over the years. One day I’m walking home from school and a group of young boys about my little brothers age so I say about 11-12 years old smoking and rapping “ I said wait hold up please let me roll up” and thinking to myself did that music make them want to smoke drugs or was it the drugs that decided the type of music they listened to. More and more new songs about drugs have come out come out for example the molly dance, and I myself have noticed ever since the song has been released more and more people find it fascinating to want to do a “Molly” because it seemed cool and the rappers. People they look up to have tried it or claimed they tried it. I think it’s not just rap music though that impacts drugs; I think every genre has a different impact on drugs. That’s another reason why I chose this particular project to see if it’s just rap music, and if indeed it is I want to know what are the different solutions we can take to change this. Maybe less drugs and more successful things in music like staying in…

The general topic of my PIP is the younger generation’s (specifically Gen Y and Z - the digital natives) inherent captivation with social media and the moral and social quandary this poses. The benefit of social media is ambiguous to say the least; does it serve as a tool to better network with the world around you? Or are its effects much more negative in nature? Accordingly, my hypothesis in relation to my topic is that “Social media isolates individuals (with focus given to the digital natives) by negatively socialising them with subpar social abilities”. I aim to achieve a concrete conclusion on whether or not my hypothesis is accurate, and how and why the networking giant Facebook has undoubtedly changed the socialisation process for present and future generations. Specific areas to be investigated are the continuities or changes to social interaction between individuals, as well as the socialisation process and any variances to the process that may surface due to gender (my cross cultural element). This topic was developed from a genuine interest in the enculturation of individuals into contemporary Western society, and how this may differ negatively compared to more traditional methods of socialising with others, apparent in the previous pre-Facebook generations. To compliment my secondary research for this topic, I will conduct further primary research consisting of a questionnaire to formulate a basis for public opinion, a focus group consisting of 3 males and 3 females from Gen Y or Z, interviews aimed towards those of older generations, and finally, my own personal reflection to act as a cross reference to what others have said from Gen X or Y.…
