Personal Narrative: Why Am I Volunteer
When I found out in my freshman year we had to do volunteer hours I was confused if we had to do it only in senior year or every year. I was not sure so I figure I would not worry about it it my freshman year. Until the summer of going into my 11 grade I have decided to volunteer in my school with my IT Department staff. I had ask Manny Chaves if he will be okay with me putting some hours of volunteer with him so that he can teach me more of technology. I wanted a more in-depth understand towards a career I want I feel I want. I figure since I am part of a generation that is being build in technology why not be part of something I find interesting. Mr. Chaves accepted me to teach me and let me have hands-on work with the technology that our …show more content…
The person that let me do volunteer hours was Johonna such a nice lady that towards the end she let me and my best friend choice things we wanted once the summer program ended. My job there was to encourage kids to read during the summer. I felt that was not going to be difficult but than I thought of how I don't want to read during the summer but to enjoy my summer. My note to the parent and to the child was to read either something in their grade level or to read something their interest in. Why what their interest in because sometimes the book of your own grades are not that interested that you need to read something either low or high level to read to enjoy. The point is to get people to read but at least something that grabs the attention to the audience or else it not something they would enjoy to pick up the next time they have to read. Than again my summer to becoming a senior I went again to Manny to do again volunteer hours I did around 345 hours of volunteer. I enjoy the time of volunteer I was able to gain more experience in what I did. I also was responsible towards my timing and doing my part of the job to make easy for the person I was working

I am not going to start this off with a quote because that's what everyone else is doing. I am Avery Peak and I hate doing things someone has already done. I like being creative in my own way, that's why I have a grain shoot for an exhaust in my truck and rolling on 37inch mud tires.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

I volunteered in Salvation Army to provide help in coat give-away program. There was a big box filled with not arranged coats for both genders and all ages. I took off all coats from the box and put them on a large sheet that helps me to divide the coats into different categories: boys, girls, women, and men. I folded each group and returned it to the box.…

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment”. A question such as “who am I”? Really gives me the opportunity to differentiate and express who I really am and who I can be. I am not a complex person who thinks the world is against me, nor am I overly sophisticated “know-it-all” who doesn't take time to pay attention to my surroundings. I can't say that I am like every other person because there are certain things that make me a unique individual. What I can say is that I am progressing towards a brighter future.…

Thirty of those fifty service hours are a mandatory aspect of the junior year curriculum and must involve work with either the poor or marginalized. Personally, I chose to complete my necessary hours with the organization Outdoors for All, specifically working with the marginalized. Outdoors for All (OFA) strives to enrich the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through outdoor recreation by offering programs just as skiing, kayaking, and biking. I participated in their downhill ski program, teaching lessons to people ranging from four to thirty-five years old with a vast array of both mental and physical disabilities. Volunteering with OFA improved not only my teaching skills but my ability to work with all people regardless of their…

I interviewed a friend of mine who tutors at a middle school. She has been tutoring for three years. Her reasons for volunteering are that she enjoys helping kids learn and believes that education is a very important thing. The organization that she volunteers for goes to the middle school every morning and tutors the kids who have difficulty with their classes. An organization like this is needed in our community because everybody in my town does not believe that education is important for the future and tutoring children at a younger, more impressionable age makes an impact. She described her love for watching kids get excited about learning and doing their work. “Every time we all walk into the room, the kid’s race to their tutor, eager to learn more,” she said. As…

I volunteered at Texas Humane Heroes, a local animal welfare organization that gives a homeless dog or cat a chance of finding home. It is a nonprofit organization that benefits from the involvement of volunteers. This was a very unique experience because I got to work with a lot of different volunteers and staff members. There were different volunteering opportunities from foster volunteering to helping out around the place. I helped around the place with other volunteers. We cleaned the dog and cat cages and washed their bowls. It wasn’t fun to pick up their waste, but we got to play with the puppies and the kittens. We also had to greet customers and inform them about the cats and the dogs that they had up there. In the afternoon, we had to walk the dogs. So many volunteers and I, took the dogs out.…

By giving your time and showing compassion for the people in need you will help them to feel comfortable getting the assistance that is so necessary to their survival and health. Volunteering is a way to help that has the ability to give back. There are many great benefits to volunteer work, and not only by helping people in need. According to Shayla in Benefits of Volunteering in College, volunteering can also "build your network", "strengthen your resume", and of course give you the knowledge to better understand the people you are giving your time to (Shayla). Building your network will be a vital part of life when trying to find jobs, internships, and make business connections. People you meet through volunteering have the ability to forever affect your life and may well continue to be a part of your life for years to come. What better place to meet people who share the same drive to help others as you do than at an organization who helps feed Americans in need? These hours will not go unnoticed on your resume either. "Scholarship committees love to learn how youth are helping their communities." These hours will not only be valued by the people they help, as you spend time helping others your outlook on life is changed by the skills and real life experience you gain from it. As the single child in a family with working parents, I spent the most time of my childhood living and hanging around with my dog. This experience might be one of the reasons that I am very compassionate to animals and sensitive to people’s needs. My voluntary work is in a welfare house called Alenah's home. I love working there because I like seeing the smile face of the children there – even some autism babies don’t smile facially, I believe they can feel the love when being caressed softly.…

I have the experience of volunteering for two times. Both schools that I went to are very poor school as most of students come from neighbor countries such as Myanmar and Cambodia, whom their parents immigrate illegally to Thailand for working opportunity. Also the school director tries to help this children by give them opportunity to study without tuitions fee, which is make financial support from the government is not enough. Therefore, my friends and I went to give the necessary stuffs such as sport facilities and some amount of money that my friends and I did the donation from kind-hearted people. We also educated them in various topics such as teach them English daily use sentences and basic economics in term of how to saving. The reason that I choose to teach them how to saving is I found that their family financial status is not good, so it is necessary for them to use money correctly and make sure that they will not overspending.…

The service that I did with the poor was at St. Vincent De Paul. I took the bus with a friend after school on a random Thursday with Ms. Reuter driving the bus, which I didn’t expect her to know how to do at all. It was my first time working there, because I had only worked at the distribution center the year before for confirmation. When we arrived we all signed in and they put the people who had been there before in their normal locations. My friend and I got split up, with me in charge of sorting all of the donated canned foods and my friend went over to move pallets around. While I was working with one of the staff there, I made friends with some freshmen that were also working with me. They started calling me silly names like “broth boy” because at some point I got in charge of sorting canned broths.…
