Personal Narrative-Repertory Theater
In 4th grade I was invited to see a friend of mine in the stage production of "Charolette's Web." I was entranced by what was happening in front of me. Real life people on a stage with a crowd people watching. The theatre I saw the production at was called Spotlight Theatre and every time Spotlight did a performance, they gave away a cookie cake to one of the audience members. As luck would have it, I was the winner that day. I was asked to come up to the stage and receive my cake from some of the cast members. As I received the cake and looked out upon the crowd filled with lit up faces, I realized that this was where I belonged. I felt energized and happy unlike anything I had ever felt before. Later that year I would see myself audition …show more content…
There were new people and new rules to get accustomed to, but I managed to fit in quite well and that is were I made a new family that I would spend my high school career with. I now enter my fourth year in the program and was blessed to receive the "best actor in the state" award at our state competition. That award was a dream come true because I saw great actors in the past receive it and now it was my time to step up and be the actor I have trained to be. Now as my year comes to a close, I am sadened that it is almost over, but I also rejoice in what it has done for me. It is not just a theatre class to do silly productions in, but a class that has helped me become a better human. I learned interaction and kindness towards others. I learned leadership and confidence when it was needed and most importantly, I learned that the future is not defined by one small moment. I use to worry so much about what came next rather than focusing on the now. I now see that the future will be okay no matter what I get on my ACT or how my math exam goes. There is so much more to life than being stressed all day long. I am grateful for my experiences in Repertory theatre and would not ever forget them. Not

With my head still in the clouds from the morning adventure, the bonus that was to come that evening would ensure that my head would stay there. As soon as the new year came into existence, I created a list of goals to complete in 2016, all of which I plan to complete with gusto (I love that word, it sounds so silly). One of those goals (#5 on my list actually) is to finally get my hands on a first edition of The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux and stare at it in wonder as if it were a fairy princess riding a unicorn into the sunset. I don't even have to purchase it, just hold it and touch it like it is a priceless treasure (which it is).…

(The bride walks down the aisle towards her husband. The distance from the entrance of the church to the altar seems abnormally long. A cold drop of sweat rushes down along her spine. The flowers she is holding are visibly shaking as she slowly passes by the smiling onlookers. Her heartbeat is louder than her footsteps. She tries to breathe through her mouth to supply the now seemingly inadequate oxygen to her body. It is clear she is scared. Her mother, Mrs. Stones, realizes this and comes forth to meet her, holds her hand and squeezes it gently. Finally they arrive at the altar and her mother hands her over to her husband)…

Role playing for me is very anxiety inducing. I am not a good public speaker and I hate it when all the attention is on me. I am an introvert to the core. Going into the role play I was nervous and uncomfortable and was anticipating a challenging experience. After seeing the other role plays I knew that the topic I would cover would not be an easy one, but honestly in life when in life are topics ever easy?…

From singing Phantom of the Opera in the shower to pretending to be Mimi Marquez swinging from the wooden bars and ladder of my bunk bed belting melodies from my favorite show, Rent. My mother implanted theatre into my heart since the beginning. But I was always missing just one aspect of the magic I knew, performing. I yearned to hear the patter of my feet on the stage, for my voice to echo throughout a theater during a rehearsal, to transform into a different person and tell their story. But when I was younger I guess it just wasn't my time yet. My family didn’t really have the money to enroll me in any sort of performing arts program and our town lacked a theatre program in schools until high school. Performing in the comforts of my own bedroom would have to do until I got to high school. Once I got to high school I eagerly auditioned for the 2 shows they produced a year, desperate to finally be on a stage. Yet, there was something missing from the experience, I wasn’t aware of it at the time and it wasn’t until my friend Kevin pulled me aside during one of our rehearsals and informed me about the pre professional theatre company he was apart of. Soon enough I convinced my mother to sign me up for theatre camp at Gaslamp Academy of Performing Arts. Essentially it’s where I found myself as a performer and as a person. Before the program I hadn’t ever taken risks or made choices on stage as a character and as myself in life. If I was ever in a place with the opportunity to meet new people I wouldn’t take advantage of it, usually I’d wait until people came up to talk to me because I just couldn’t bring myself to talk to people. My confidence was at an all time low before Gaslamp, I didn't believe that I could accomplish anything. However, spending 8 hours a day for a month with a group of accepting, loving, intellectual, inspiring people changed me and I learned so much about myself that I…

My trip to New York with my choir, I visited Carnegie hall to sing on stage. Coming on stage was the scariest feeling knowing I have a part to sing by myself (A solo). The feeling I get when my part/verse is coming up is nerve racking. The only way to describe it is that time is getting slower, and slower then time just stops completely. All you can hear is your heavy breathing, and the doubt in my head. The hardest part is when its time to sing. The crowed gets so quite I cannot even hear a whisper out in the audience. If you have stage fright, which I did, it makes it even harder. Once you do it over, and over again it starts to get easier to stand in front of people, and preform.…

Even though I was nervous at first, I ended up enjoying my first production with the drama club. I have continued to perform in other productions, and have maintained my friendships with the people I had met my freshman year. I have also learned “there are no small parts, only small actors.” Although I might not have the lead role in every play, my role and involvement still has merit. Being in these performances has also given me the opportunity to learn from others and their experiences, which has in turn helped to better me as a person. Joining the drama club was one of the best decisions I had ever…

Today I noticed that my towel is heavier than I thought it was. I have a thick blue towel that I keep drying around the shower rod that was hung up. As I opened the shower curtain the whole thing falls and the curtain comes off the rod. I hung it back up as I normally would and of course it fell again. I realized that my towel had been holding it down when it was already just shy of being sturdy enough. It looked as though the actual rod wasn’t long enough to d=reach the length of the shower so it could only hold light weights.…

My acting career began in fifth grade in Rome Little Theatre’s production of Charlotte’s Web. I started out as a simple fairgoer that went onstage once, but have since transitioned to larger leading roles, such as Genie in Aladdin, Monsieur Firmin in Phantom of the Opera, Shrek in Shrek the Musical, and Jesus in Godspell, all in this past season. I am currently in my 21st production in five years (not including church performances) as Jack in Into The Woods. The main venue I perform at is Rome Little Theatre, which despite the name, is the biggest community theatre company in the Rome area. Even though I have a very small theatre department at my school, I constantly find ways to perform in a variety of venues around the Centre, AL and Rome…

When I was about five years old I did my first ballet recital. I was doing the recital with my best friend Emma because we took ballet classes together. It was Easter at the time so the theme of the recital was bunny. We wore bunny ears and pastel pink tutus, and I knew we looked beautiful. I was confident that I was a good dancer, but I probably was not as good as I theorized. I had a wonderful time doing ballet with Emma. At the end of the recital Emma and I got roses and lots of hugs. After the recital my family and I went to a restaurant called Jimmy Max. I have lots of fond memories of my first recital…

I was apart of an Internet group full of women. I was browsing the posts when I came across a fascinating woman and I clicked on her photo. My Person was sitting next to me when he said, “who is that?!” So I clicked on her profile and viewed her photos with him. We looked through pictures of The Violinist. “Wow. She is absolutely stunning.” He said. I agreed. At the time, My Person and I were no longer in a relationship. I wanted space while he was desperately trying to cling onto what little of a relationship we had left. So, without his consent, I wrote her a message with his pictures and a short bio asking her to go on a blind date with him. She said she was in a relationship but it was rocky. I don’t know what possessed me to do this. It just felt…

“You have to play an instrument whether you like it or not!” my mom yelled as she dragged me to my piano lesson. I dreaded going to piano lessons. The teacher would slap my hands with a ruler if my hands were not cupped correctly. She would yell, “Again!” if I played one note wrong. After endless crying and begging, my mom finally let me choose an instrument. I wiped away my tears with relief. “Drums!”, I replied confidently. After three years, the music school decided to organize a recital. I wanted to do a piece with my sister, but I knew we needed more instruments. I invited Ebony, a singer, and Stephanie, a pianist, to jam. Ebony was shy and kept her vocal talent secret, but through this newly formed band, UPBeat!, she came out of her shell as we continued to practice and perform successful covers of Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain and Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors.…
