Personal Narrative: Poas Volcano
It’s July 27th, 2018 and this is the story of how I , Jennifer, ended up in a Costa Rica hospital due to a shark attack not me, my best friend Ashley. This crazy event all started three days before this on July 24th, 2018 when we were heading to the airport to get on the plane. During the first two of four hours we had been arranging a sing along and been irritated by a seven year old who was karate chopping our seats. Eventually we fell asleep but were disturbed by the pilot who was announcing that there were several strange shark attacks where we were landing. When we landed everyone headed directly to their hotels frantically.

It was July 25th, 2018 we decided to stay even with the shark attacks, Ashley, her parents and I had all planned to explore the island starting with seeing Poas Volcano. At the summit you could see the crater it was an amazing view! Next we went to the shops that we had passed earlier in the middle

Ashley’s parents had picked a beach access where you would have the best view of the sunset. Shortly after we had been out on the beach we had realized why the news kept saying that the shark attacks were strange, because there was a nine foot great white shark WALKING out of the ocean toward us. The first thing that had come to our minds was to run, we all ran except Ashley she was frozen with fear. A split second had passed before all we heard was her screaming and all u could see from her lg was blood, the shark had bitten half her leg off. Instantly the sirens were in the air again coming to take the fifth victim of the walking shark back to the emergency room. Amputation was required for the remainder of Ashley’s right leg due to inflammation. That was the story of how I ended up in a Costa Rica hospital during my summer

The moment I picked up my phone I knew something was wrong. The tone of my friend Danny’s voice sounded very grave and worn. The reason why followed in lowly uttered words. “CJ is in the hospital.” In sort of a daze I rushed to the hospital and found a way into the Intensive Care Unit. There in the bed was my friend with two broken arms and internal damage to his kidneys. At his side sat his mom. When I asked what happened, she said that Cj was hit off of Brooks Bridge by a drunk driver. A thirty-foot fall into the ground below, landing in the grass. Cj was two-inches away from the stone hard concrete that could’ve ended his life.…

Volcanoes exist all around the world. There are three types of volcanoes, they are shield volcano, cinder cone volcano and a composite volcano. A volcano is a place where ash, gases, and molten material rock from deep underground erupt to the surface. Lava comes out of a vent , then it turns into a lava flow. When external waters, such as groundwater , mixes with magma and then it turns into steam. The violence of an eruption depends on the amount of gas that was dissolved in the magma. Pyroclastics, form from when fragments of magma are thrown into the air by expanding gas. silicic caldera complexes produce the most violent volcanic eruptions.…

I have spent days in the Hawaiian Islands educating Hawaiians about Christianity and it is no vacation. I have grown taller from when you have last seen me, but I do look very different. My hair is now a light brown from the exposure of the scorching sun, my body has become frail and scrawny from the lack of food and nutrients on my journey, and my attitude towards events has changed and I am more aware and sensitive to my peers aboard the ship. I have suffered sea sickness and have witnessed many deaths while sailing to the island, either from the lack of food or health. Here in the Hawaiian islands isn’t all that bad though. I have met many friendly Hawaiians and we are slowly starting to understand each other. However, aside from the welcoming Hawaiians, the scenery is something that is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I could have spent my whole day here with my hands and feet engulfed into the grainy sand while watching the sparkling, blue…

On the 15th June of 1991, the second largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century took place on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, 90 km northwest of the capital city Manila. It was also, by far, the largest eruption to affect a densely populated area. Mount Pinatubo, a stratovolcano, is part of a chain of volcanoes along the Luzon arc on the west coast (refer map). The arc of volcanoes is due to the subduction of the Manila trench to the west. The mountain has a very huge eruptive history. It was known to be thermally active and had been explored as possible geothermal energy resource by the Philippine National Oil Company. Mount Pinatubo is among the highest peaks in west-central Luzon. Its lower flanks were made, mostly, of pyroclastic deposits from voluminous, explosive prehistoric eruptions. Although the 1991 eruption was one of the largest and most violent of the 20th century, it was weaker than the previous Pinatubo eruptions.…
