Personal Narrative: Paid: Job At Kentucky Kingdom
Paid – Job at Kentucky Kingdom
Last summer was one of the best summers of my life, all because I worked in Kentucky Kingdom – the best amusement park in Kentucky. It was my first real job and I worked specifically in the rides departments where I had a lot of interaction with guest from all over the world. There I developed a lot of good habits including smiling, taking initiative and responsibility, and being productive and proactive in the work environment. Operating the rides and giving guest good times made me feel that I’m doing things in this world and that I’m making difference in people lives. Throughout my sessional job there, I had very good and close relationships with my work associate, supervisors, managers and even with the

A time when I took the lead in solving a problem in my community was when I chose my Eagle Project. I wanted my project to impact as many people as possible and I also wanted to give back to the organization that had sponsored my scout troop for so long. I looked over the church grounds and found a need. The church, borders the Harpeth River in Franklin, TN and members can choose to have baptisms done in the river. The problem that existed was that the baptismal site wasn’t safe for those partaking in it or viewing it. The riverbank is steep and there wasn’t a safe place for families to view the event. An old triangular deck was present, but it was small, not adequately anchored and had poorly attached rope rails. My goal was to construct a…

While many people would probably choose to travel to another country, a foreign universe, or something even more extraordinary, there is no place I would rather go than Pawnee, Indiana, despite the fact that it doesn’t really exist. Having been a fan of the television show Parks and Recreation for quite some time now, I can confidently say that Pawnee would be the most exciting place one could go.…

My Carolina story is one of perseverance. I grew up in a prominently white and underrepresented area, being a multicultural male it was very hard to fit in. However, with the backing of family and friends I was able to overcome many of the obstacles that plagued my area. Through hard work and dedication, I believe that anything is possible. It can be said that as long as you believe in yourself nothing is out of reach. For me this was the key to my success, however, upon applying to UNC-CH I was waitlisted. This greatly hurt my confidence as I felt as if I wasn't smart enough, but to my surprise I made it off the waiting list and enrolled in UNC. Nevertheless, the effects of being waitlisted lingered over me a long period of time. I found myself contemplating whether I was smart enough to attend such a prestigious university. Although soon enough I began to get involved on campus and through this I realized UNC was the best place for me and that no matter what I could make it at a esteemed university. The diversity that UNC offers was a vital key in helping to understand my place, I heard that "diversity creates identity" and this has been one of the strongest statements I have ever heard. My Carolina story is one of struggle and perseverance to fit in, yet, with hope and hard work you can accomplish anything.…

It was in the muggy day in the middle of July and I was stuck outside watching a bunch of bratty kids run around in the woods playing tag and hide and seek. A few months earlier, I was applying for the Camp Counselor job at the M.E Lyons YMCA, which would be my first job. In the beginning of the summer, I had no idea that being a counselor would be extremely challenging, but very rewarding in the end.…

My patience skills and work ethic have improved ever since I started my job as a birthday party leader for children. This position has allowed me to observe children’s behaviour first-hand, which made me realize how things work differently when dealing with a child than with adults. My communication skills have greatly developed as well. I have learned that children need a more gradual and illustrated idea when it comes to explaining things. Working with children has made me more mature and has also showed me how to use efficient teamwork to get the job successfully done. These characteristics and skills will benefit my future career working with children as well as my understanding of their…

It was a preposterous dream any would say it would never happen, nevertheless a couple years later along with many hours of tough relentless work I had the opportunity to participate in the combine. This was one of the most important experiences I would ever engage in, it was an opportunity to show off all the skills I have attained to compete against other athletes. Although there was one dilemma with this dream. It was the possibility and probability of being drafted to a team distant from my family, the people I love furthermore rely on. I don't know if I could leave the ones I love to play a sport I've fantasised about. The fear of failing and taking this colossal risk was equivalent as a weight restraining me back to my heart. It was…

As a child, if someone told me that my first job would be in the food service, I would accuse them of lying. If they told me I would absolutely love it? Impossible, I’d say. It will never happen. Yet here I am, seven months into my first job at a bagel shop. I now work a job I never thought I would have, and it changed me in ways I never thought possible.…

The most significant extracurricular activity that I participate in would most likely be track and field during the indoor and outdoor seasons. I maintain a paid job and also help out at the local library, yet my experience as an athlete for Exeter High School has instilled within me invaluable time management skills, work ethic, and determination. Lettering all previous years I have competed, and being elected the team’s most valuable player last year, I work extremely hard on and off the track to achieve my goals. Balancing training with school can be difficult at times, but in a way I seem to work better having more on my plate. Receiving the scholar athlete award every consecutive season since sophomore year goes to show my greatly improved…

It's one thing to watch things unfold, but it's completely different when you are taking initiative on how it unfolds. During my time spent at Queens College I had the opportunity to work in diverse occupations both academically and non-academically. The experience gained from the variety of occupations helped me realize my interest academically and professionally; such as the ability in taking psychological knowledge and applying it into the work environment.…

This week reminded me how amazing and important my job is. Friday was a busy day at the office; I was rushing to finish my work so I could leave on time. As I was about to leave I received a phone call from a hiring manager (Mark) with NOAA. Mark had questions about the interview process and was calling to speak to one of my colleagues. Unfortunately, my colleague was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for another week. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to go but I could hear the frustration in Mark’s voice. Instead of leaving, I spent almost an hour listening to Mark’s concerns, answering his questions, and I explained how the federal hiring process works. At the end of our conversation, Mark thanked me for my time and he told me…

My first day on the plantations, was nothing what I expected it to be. It was one of the most horrific, gruesome sites which immediately dismissed all my assumptions of what I thought I would have faced. The labour was crucial and the work was hard and extremely strenuous. The plantation slave drivers devised theories that “Negroes were lazy”, therefore they were whipped branded, tarred and burned, just to ensure that they were being obedient to their masters. This corporal punishment would leave deep flesh wounds. I cringed with intense emotion, as I watched them endure such harsh punishment. All I could picture at that time was what if that was my father, mother, wife even my children. What would I have done to save them from the brutality.…

The “feeling business” does not operate by management decree alone. Whatever services Disneyland executives feel they are providing to the 60-70,000 visitors per day, employees at the bottom of the organization are the ones who most provide them. The work-a-day practices that employees adopt to amplify or dampen customer spirits are therefore a core concern of this feeling business. The happiness trade is an interactional one. It rests partly on the symbolic resources put into place by history and park design, but it also rests on an animated workforce that is more or less eager to greet the guests, pack the trams, push the buttons, deliver the food, dump the garbage, clean the streets, and in general marshal the will to meet and perhaps exceed customer expectations. False moves, rude words, careless disregard, detected insincerity, or a sleepy and bored presence can all undermine the enterprise and ruin a sale. The smile factory has its rules.…

I can see this internship at State Farm affecting my career goals in a positive way as it will provide me with many experiences that I have never been exposed to before in my life. In the STEM academy I have learned how to work with others to accomplish one goal and how to present our achievements to our peers, however the experiences that can be obtained by interning for a major employer is such a different experience than a school project and presentation. These experiences can affect my career goals in the technology field as this internship might determine whether I want to continue my studies or switch to another field before it is too late for me to do so.…
