Personal Narrative: My Wrestling Career
Something I am very proud of was my wrestling career. Ever since I was four years old I was wrestling on the mat. Wrestling has shaped me into the man I am today by not only effecting me mentally but also physically. Wrestlers are known to be very hardworking and determined people. This grueling sport isn’t for everyone and many who begin wrestling when they are young will not stick with it. I believe this is why I was pulled to this sport so much and why I never quit; allowing myself to know that I can do something that most wouldn’t dare do. I feel that this will better equip me for my future endeavors and help me succeed when I get a job in the field of business. All the hard work and determination that I had spent on wrestling paid off in the end when I got to high school. Wrestling on a high school team became a very special experience to me, especially when I was selected captain of a team that never had a consistent coach. All four years of high school we had a different …show more content…
I don’t like disappointing anyone and I try my hardest to satisfy everyone. Anywhere I go I have the confidence that I can make friends and continue to converse with anyone even when I don’t know them too well. One of the reasons I was voted Class President was because I am able to maintain a relationship with a very vast amount of people, I am willing to talk to anyone and everyone. I was able to form relationships with my teachers and my friends’ parents because I don’t see any age barriers when it comes to communication, some think that teachers aren’t people you talk to; however, I have gained not only good friendly relationships, but excellent references as well. Because I am more of a people person, it seems to be a lot easier to connect and network with people in different circumstances. I believe I can talk to anyone with confidence and I feel that I will be able to transition this skill to my future

Through my high-school rowing career, it was my goal to win first place in at-least one competition, whether it be in a boat with four people, or a boat with eight people. Shortly after I was added to the team, I switched places with the stroke seat in my boat due to my determination and hard efforts. Stroke seat sets the rhythm for the rest of the rowers, and as I quickly improved to be the most powerful and technical rower in my quad boat, I was to be the metronome. That year, we won most of our competitions. For the following rowing seasons, I was set as stroke seat in many of the boats I had competed in. I continued to improve my technique and speed in the boat, and became one of the most reliable stroke seat members in my school's entire…

I had been overweight since my early teens, as time passed it continued to worsen. at the age of 15 I was on the brink of obesity; I had to decide a change in my life. My life had consisted of school and video games; these combined had led me to an unhealthy lifestyle. I had dedicated years into my video game hobby, but this was the least active of my time. My hobby had to go, a new hobby had emerged: bodybuilding. Bodybuilding had given me a satisfaction that my previous hobby did not give, the satisfaction of working; that patience and efforts lead to greater satisfaction than momentary things like video…

What I've done this year is ive been working on all of my work in each class, I've recently joined the wrestling team and I think that will be a good sport that I would be good at. I feel like I've been really trying hard to do my school work and really getting things done on time and not late. I think I'm at a place where I'm doing okay i need to step up my game and bring up my chemistry grade, but over all I've been doing good, and I've also been doing good in wrestling. I see my self going to college with a scholarship for wrestling, but if that doesn't seem to work out my other choice is to join the navy and traveling around the work doing my job and planning to stay in there for a long time.…

One thing that I have learned from wrestling is self-confidence. It is just me out there against my opponent and no one to help me. So I learned to believe in myself because I would accomplish things that I didn't think I could do. Last year I was wrestling a kid from Capital who won state the year before I was nervous to wrestle him. Well it was a close match and I was down by one point with only a few seconds left on the clock. But I finally just took my chance and hit a sweet double leg takedown to win the match. Wrestling has showed me that you are responsible for your own success. It has also taught me to take my shot no matter what. It doesn't matter the outcome whether it is winning or losing if I knew I put my all into what I just did. Then I would be proud and not hang my head and pout.…

    1. Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler (2008) is a film that forces the viewers to ask questions rather than find answers. It is a film that explores the world of the working class as well as the performers with demanding jobs. In the film Mickey Rourke portrays a washed up wrestler Robin Ramzinski, however he is better known by his stage name Randy “The Ram” Robinson. The “Ram” finds himself at a crossroad in life, and must choose between the sport he loves or protecting his health. If there were one specific structure that Aronofsky used in this film it would be journey. From the very beginning of the film until the last scene, Robin goes through a whirlwind of events. From emotional victories, being desperate for love, a heart attack, cocaine filled nights and losing his only daughters love and trust, The Wrestler is a journey that many can identify…

The first person I interviewed was my mom. Her first job ever was at a bank, and got the job a week after she graduated high school. My mom’s original plan was to work for a year, and then go to college. She ended up not going to college and her employer offered her a full time position. She got promoted in different important positions throughout her 13 years at the bank. She worked in mortgage lending and ended up being an escrow officer. After my mom left her job at the bank she was a stay at home mom for 16 years. She was at home with me and my sister. She was able to take us to our various activities, summer camps, and practices for sports. When I was in sixth grade, she decided to go back to work part time. She worked as an Assistant…

I remember taking my first steps through the gyms glass doors not knowing what would be on the other side. I was very nervous. All that drove me and persuaded my feet to keep marching forward was my motivation and my will to improve myself physically, and mentally. Ever since I was a little kid I always wanted to learn the art of boxing. That afternoon I wasn’t going to be no exception. I was ready to begin the journey into an unknown world. As soon as I stepped foot in the small gym located east of Denver I came across a very extraordinary person. In his 60s in a midnight blue running suit, running shoes, and with a grey polo cap ready for business. His name Jorem Hill, a professional boxer with quite a record in the ring whom knows the sport like the back of his hand.…

In the 7th grade I tried out for the middle school basketball team. I didn’t make the team, so I decided to try out for the wrestling team. I was in pretty good shape going into the first practice but had no idea what I was getting myself into. It was an excruciating first practice with a lot of running, push-ups, and drills that consisted of constant movement. I was hooked though I loved the idea of one on one combat. When the referee blew the whistle, no one could help me, if I wanted to win I had to rely on myself. After my first wrestling season came to an end, I was much more confident in myself. Not only was I in better physical shape, the mental toughness that came with the sport transferred to my academics.…

On a daily basis, I have to effectively communicate with many different people throughout the entire day. I take pride in being assertive in the decisions I make. I must be confident in those decisions, because by seeming timid, the students and parents would feel as if I wasn’t sure of myself and that I may not be making the best possible choice. While I may be confident, I am also very understanding. The balance of the two allows me to keep the perfect boundary with my students. They are comfortable enough to approach me and talk about any problems, but they also know to take the decisions made very seriously. When talking to the parents I can be very versatile. When sharing the data I have about their child, I understand that I may need to use layman’s terms. For some parents I may need to create a chart or graph, and for others a more effective strategy may be as simple as changing a few professional terms into something they are more familiar with. A slight downfall in my communication is participating in large groups. I struggle to leave my comfort zone and meet new people. This hinders my ability to create relationships in the community. I plan on improving my sociability as I gain experience and get more comfortable in the coming…

I am most proud of my persistence and my dedication. Dad started teaching me chess when I was only two years old. It took an enormous effort to stay focused, but I learned to be persistent and spent long hours mastering my moves. We still laugh at my toddler photos where I am tasting chess pieces. I enjoy the challenge of learning new skills and I can now spend hours getting ready for math and programming competitions going over difficult parts numerous times. I can practice violin and guitar even when I am frustrated by the results. Patience and dedication also come in handy when I am tutoring students in math or explaining to senior citizens how to use a computer…
