Personal Narrative: My Strengths And Weaknesses In College
Since I plan on applying to college sometime in the near future, I would like to make sure that I have more strengths than weaknesses. I have been playing softball for the past ten years and it helps me build my teamwork skills. Along with playing softball, I have been volunteering at the Family YMCA of the Desert for the past three years, until this last year where I got hired as a counselor for the day camps. It has helped my communication skills to get along with my co-workers, parents, and, of course, the children. One of my weaknesses is my technological abilities. I would like to improve my computer skills some more. I am very great at working well with others either in a work environment or a sports team. At one point, I was captain of my travel softball team for three years and we worked incredibly as a team. At my work site, the Family YMCA of the Desert, I have learned to communicate with a range of people from three year olds to my coworkers and of course the parents. Working at the YMCA has allowed me to get hands on experience with kids and it helps me when I'm with my family or at an important facility. I get to also express my organizational skills, cleaning up after kids and helping plan field trips for the kids. The YMCA has opened so many doors for me through my ability to be able to communicate with a variety of

Throughout my time is College Composition I, I learned and developed numerous skills that I will carry with me to college and beyond. While writing the five assigned essays, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. I believe a strength of mine was my ability to add in personal stories into my essays. For example, in my definition essay, I included my fear of disappointment and how I work to overcome this particular fear. On the other hand, one weakness that I struggled with was style. While writing my essays, I would sometimes use wordy and unclear sentences structures. Often times I would focus solely on improving my diction while writing my papers.…

My time at the community college was used to focus on building a strong academic foundation, specifically tutoring international students English every week as they tried to maneuver through their lives in the United States. I remember during one particular session, a Chinese exchange student told me that when she first arrived in Seattle, she was in a state of euphoria. However, her inability to communicate fluently with her peers hindered her from adapting to the customs in America. Consequently, it impeded her from making her own place in society. Another individual, who emigrated from Eritrea, confessed she was still unfamiliar with having additional resources at her fingertips. She grew up in an area where advanced technological tools,…

When first posed the questions of how do I fit in at a college and how my extracurricular activities and experiences would benefit the college, I was not sure where to begin writing. To be perfectly honest, I think I would be a good fit on almost any campus because I believe I am adaptable to my surroundings and have a solid foundation that would make me an asset anywhere in the nation. While the previous sentence may come across to readers as egocentric or egotistic, I’m puzzled at where to begin because I also don’t think I’m outstanding anywhere compared to my fellow students academically speaking. On the other hand, it is almost a forgone conclusion in my mind that I have experienced more in my years than the majority of my peers. Also, as a result of many of these experiences, I’ve been able to get a jump start in my field of choice compared to where anyone else in the nation going into my career would likely be. Overall, I would say I have…

It was the morning of move in day. I said goodbye to my home and headed out. I passed the local shopping market and my high school where I enjoyed a fun four years. As I headed to Norman I realized I was leaving everything I had ever known. All my life has consisted of living in the same house, going to school with the same kids, and going to the same supermarkets and restaurants. While I’d like to say I have developed a good idea of the world around me by visiting so many cities around the United States, in reality the only world I’ve ever known is the same one I have spent my whole life in. I have loved growing up in Northwest Oklahoma City with the friends that have helped shaped me into who I am today, however I relished the opportunity…
