Personal Narrative: My Personal Experiences At Texas Children's Hospital
There I was, 6 months old with a dent in my head, screaming in the emergency room. This was just the first of many times I would set foot in a hospital. Severe chest pains, dog attack, fractured L5, strange sicknesses, multiple concussions; it was as if the hospital was my second home. I was a junior olympic level gymnast, and on top of the injuries that came with that, I managed to get so sick that my immune system was useless, for most of my younger years.
Unlike most kids my age, needles didn't scare me, being poked and prodded became normal for me. After almost dying from the worst case of Cat Scratch Disease the Texas Children’s Hospital had ever seen at the time, having a little blood taken was the least of my fears. I had encountered so many nurses, doctors, specialist, and been through so many procedures and exams; the staff at Texas Children’s became my

I do what I can to help whoever I can, and I want nothing more than a career that allows me to do exactly that each and every day. I know how to identify with others on a deeper level than most, I know how to comfort others better than anyone I know. It can be a close friend or someone I've known for all of a few minutes, and I've learned that nurses with this ability have given me some of the best memories during some of my worst experiences.
I hope to become an RN with the help of the Edinburg University, and from there I would like to work in the NICU and eventually become a CRNA. Surgical procedures are arguably one of the most frightening experiences many people will have to go through, and to have a CRNA that not only identifies with the patient but can comfort the patient, I feel, is extremely important. I personally do not react well to anesthesia, so my anxiety before and after a procedure is at its highest. From experience I know that having a great CRNA really makes all the

The ER waiting room smelled stale. Sick babies and toddlers were crying, waiting to see a doctor. My brother was laying on the tan tiled hospital floor. He was shaking terribly as the antibiotics from the previous hospital wore off and the infection set in more. Both of his hands were red and swollen. His right hand, had a black mark from where the IV initially infected. His left hand was swollen to the size of a small balloon, kind of like a blown up rubber glove I used to get from the doctor when I was younger. My mom took her jacket off to cover him. His skin was hot to the touch but he was still freezing. His fever was 101.2 but there were no open rooms in the ER at our second attempt at a hospital. We had to get him antibiotics…

I believe that nursing is both art and a science consisting of psychosocial and biological sciences that work together to continually improve the health care field. As a nurse it is crucial to carry the attributes of being caring, compassionate, understanding, nonjudgmental, realistic, open-minded, honest, ethical, and moral. I also feel that it is important to maintain sensitivity to all cultures when providing care. I believe it takes someone with a huge heart to do what nurses do. Some things you cannot be taught. If you are not a generous and caring person I cannot say I would think one would survive in the hands on medical field.…

At that time I experienced having my niece hospitalized when being a month old from pneumonia. Those moments are hard experiences that no one would like to experience but it is part of life. Therefore since that time I want to make a difference on the people who have to be hospitalized, helping them to recover. Although I would like to specialize with infants and children because they have a lower immune system and those are the most fundamental years of their lives.…

Nursing is a career not just a job, nursing is treating people as a disease, but as a unique individual who has his/her own values, beliefs, needs, and also treat the family with respect, compassion, patience, and show that we care. I chose nursing because I have always liked helping people. Ever since I was a little girl I liked helping and I would tell my dad that if he was ever sick I would take care of him so he could get better. At first I wanted to be a doctor, a pediatrician to be exact, but I chose nursing because, nurses have more contact with patients and nursing school is shorter than medical school. I know I made the right choice because as I have been doing clinicals, I have been falling more and more in love with what nurses do, but throughout the process I have also seen what kind of nurse I do not want to be. During clinicals there was an agency nurse a patient did…

There have been many occasions in my life that I have spent time in hospitals, nursing homes and by the side of a sick relative. When my grandfather was dying of cancer, he spent as much time as he could at home with his family by his side and when the time came, he was transferred to hospital, I was 14 at the time, still very young I knew it was not about how I was feeling, this pain was his and my grandmothers. I helped look after him for the two years he was diagnosed and it was during that time, I knew where my heart was and that was nursing. With my own experience of being in and out of hospital with two complicated pregnancies, I was in awe of the nurses and midwives who did everything they could to make me feel secure and safe, I was inspired and made an already certain career choice, even more evident.…

I have always thought the job of a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) was exceptionally interesting, and it would be a great way to contribute to helping the lives of others. As a bedside nurse, I am very conscientious of my patients. I will carry this skill to become a excellent CRNA. As a CRNA, it is important to remain calm in stressful situations, adapt and prepare for the different challenges that may arise. With my experience as a travel nurse those are characteristics that I possess. It is very important to be able to thrive in a new work environment, with a new work team. During surgery, the patient’s outcome depends entirely on the anesthesia provider. This responsibility requires CRNAs to use every aspect of their anesthesia education, nursing skills, and scientific knowledge. CRNAs closely monitor the patient’s vital signs, regulate the anesthetic, assess the situations, make decisions, communicate clearly with the other members of the surgical team, and respond quickly and appropriately in an emergency. It was February 4,2013 9:00 a.m., a warm sunny day, when I decided to go to Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville Arkansas, after weeks of running fever non-stop, having killing sharp pains in my sides, getting sick constantly, and not being able to eat or drink anything. I was in so much pain I didn’t even bother changing out of my Elmo pajama pants and grey shirt. My mom and I arrived just a little before 10, sitting in the waiting room was extremely painful, because I couldn’t lay down, just lying down was painful enough. Watching the people go in and out I sat there falling asleep. 11:15 came around when I heard the doctor in a blue outfit call me name taking me back to the room. I lied in the bed talking to the doctor, having blood drawn, and going over the results he had said to my mom, “There is nothing showing up.…

The drive to the hospital seemed like it took a life-time. Of course, there was tons of traffic, and we even got caught by a train. I had a lot of road rage and I wasn’t even driving. My legs couldn’t stop bouncing and my nails were about gone. My mom asked if I was hungry and wanted to stop to get something to eat. Even though I was starving after practice, I told her no because I didn’t want to waste any more time. After the longest 20 minutes of my life, we finally arrived at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.…
