Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. Life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes their job, then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. That information has enabled me to make the decision of choosing my area of study and career in the field of Nursing.
I was raised with almost everyone in my family working in the medical field. We have marine Doctors, nurses of all sorts, therapists, and even behind the scene medical family members working in jobs like medical billing and coding. Growing up and hearing stories at family gatherings of their experiences, always left me on the edge of my chair. I would not go play barbies with my cousins or basketball with the uncles I was the kid eavesdropping in on the adult conversations. I wanted to know more but most of all I was intrigued.
I believe that nursing is both art and a science consisting of psychosocial and biological sciences that work together to continually improve the health care field. As a nurse it is crucial to carry the attributes of being caring, compassionate, understanding, nonjudgmental, realistic, open-minded, honest, ethical, and moral. I also feel that it is important to maintain sensitivity to all cultures when providing care. I believe it takes someone with a huge heart to do what nurses do. Some things you cannot be taught. If you are not a generous and caring person I cannot say I would think one would survive in the hands on medical field.
The health care industry is booming; in fact, it is number seven out of 20 leading occupations, according to the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Nursing, in my opinion, is one of the most significant professions that one can be blessed to acquire. To those who pursue this field know it is a career that requires far more than simply an education even though the knowledge acquired from a degree is extremely important and necessary, by grasping rationale of the laws and regulations that rule nursing. A career in nursing requires someone to have compassion, sympathy, and care for others, especially those who are suffering from pain, illness and lack the understanding of what is happening to them or a loved one. It is a career of humanity, and it is this that first attracted me to a Masters degree in Nursing. My philosophy about nursing is that it is a career that one has to work hard for, but also a career that a person needs to have to a natural affinity for. I also believe one must have a commitment to helping others not expecting anything in return but a smile and knowing when you go home you gave your all. The ability to be a compassionate, caring nurse is what I hope to bring to the Masters degree in Nursing Program, gaining…

Nursing, to me, involves so much more than just taking care of the sick. There was a time where I thought nursing was to just following doctors orders and provide care with compassion...I was completely wrong. I currently work at a teaching hospital along with many residents asking the nurses what to do. What nursing actually is, and what nurses do encompass so much. Nursing is providing care to all individuals: families, communities, everyone. Nursing is providing medicine to one that is in need, or to just provide a simple act of kindness, support, or even a hug when needed. Sometimes the best medicine is simply just being there for someone and listening to [their] story. Nursing involves…

Nurses differentiate themselves from other healthcare professionals by having alternate methods of care, educational requirements, and different scopes of practice. The word nursing is very broad because there are various titles one can go by when providing nursing care. Although there are many different roles in nursing, they all correlate to one another to provide the best care possible for an individual patient and their families.…

Nursing is a career not just a job, nursing is treating people as a disease, but as a unique individual who has his/her own values, beliefs, needs, and also treat the family with respect, compassion, patience, and show that we care. I chose nursing because I have always liked helping people. Ever since I was a little girl I liked helping and I would tell my dad that if he was ever sick I would take care of him so he could get better. At first I wanted to be a doctor, a pediatrician to be exact, but I chose nursing because, nurses have more contact with patients and nursing school is shorter than medical school. I know I made the right choice because as I have been doing clinicals, I have been falling more and more in love with what nurses do, but throughout the process I have also seen what kind of nurse I do not want to be. During clinicals there was an agency nurse a patient did…

Teaching and helping others is satisfying to me knowing I have made a small difference in their lives, even for a short time. This is why I became a nurse. I believe, philosophically that nursing requires dedication, extensive technical and medical knowledge, compassion, empathy, and communication. I am committed to care for patients regardless of their socio-economic status, personal beliefs, cultural differences, or criminal background. People are unique, and their upbringing, beliefs, and personal choices are none of my business; their health and well-being are.…

    Philosophy of Nursing

According to EdD Anne Bishop (1997), nursing is “at all times an artful practice and applied science that are integrally woven into the fabric of the practice of caring” (p.4). This statement about the components of nursing I agree with. I believe that nursing is not singly a science, practice or art, but it is a combination of all three. Nursing is part of the medical field; its science is knowledge that’s attained through research, development and analysis. With regards to art, nurses must be creative with their knowledge of caring for patients. Every patient’s case is different and not always “a text book case” so nurses have to be ready and resourceful with thinking of solutions. The main focus of a nurse’s practice is caring. It involves concern and empathy, and a commitment to the client’s lived experience of human health and the relationships among wellness, illness, and disease (Mitchell, 2000). I believe that one day when I become a nurse, to do my job and duties for my patients I must efficiently combine practice, art and science of nursing.…

I am a firm believer in the dignity of man, the sanctity of life and being compassionate to people irrespective of their social, economic or cultural backgrounds. I belief that a person is a holistic being made up of biological, psychological, sociological and spiritual components that are in constant interaction with the environment (Fulton, et al, 2014).
