Personal Narrative: My Life As A Marine Biologist
Have you ever been to Sea World to see the amazing Shamu shows? What about going to the ocean in hopes to see an enormous sea creature lurking through the water? Do fish astonish you by the way their bodies are created? How do they even live under water? This questions is going through your head and you’re wondering what the answer is. Marine Biologists study things like that along with how fish eat, and swim in their habitat. They discover new things in the ocean everyday! But how did they know they wanted to be marine biologist? What made them decide that that’s what they wanted to do with their life? I have always had a fascination with fish ever since my dad took me fishing for the first time! It was a nice sunny day, the birds were out

It all started out at the reefs of the cold winter season in the Pacific Ocean. Against all odds there was Iro the jellyfish leader realized upon his jellyfish species that they were running out of food on their land. Benko and Seno the twins, the leaders of the sea turtles ruled the next land after them and made an agreement between Iro since long time ago during the massacre of the jellyfish and turtles for land. It was to never cross each others place or another war would break out between each other . Slowly dying jellyfish after jellyfish, Iro knew he had to do something and that was to cross the boundary that separates the jellyfish and the turtles and find a spot for sheltering with food for the jellyfish.…

As I stood on the board, I imagined myself soaring through the air, picturing every move I made until sliding into the water as perfectly as possible. I competed as a Springboard Diver for six years. Diving helped me discover and further explore the nature behind what motivates me and keeps me mental strong and capable, which is now an immense aspect of who I am. Although I am no longer a Springboard Diver, it still influences aspects of my everyday life. Diving is unique in how it is more mentally taxing than it is physically.…

Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…

An important basketball player once said, “Never say never because limits, like fears, often are an illusion.” Michael Jordan was saying that you can run from those illusions or you can challenge them. When I was in 6th grade, an important person told me that I should join Sunfish Swimming. I wasn’t really sure what to make of that and laughed it off. A week later, I was told that there would be a swim meet and that I should go and see if it would be something I was interested in. So I agreed, just to see what it would be like. We drove to Fargo and watched the swim meet. When I came back I was not sure if I would be able to handle it and be under that kind of pressure. But they talked me into it, and I said yes to swimming a few days…

One of the professions I have a lot of interest in would be marine biology. I took the high school course on it last year and I had a lot of fun in the class. I have a deep interest in the ocean and marine life, which was fostered when my family and I moved to the Pacific Coast. This interest grew further after I went on a backstage tour to the aquarium at the Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. Due to this continuous exposure to the ocean and the creatures that live there, I am focusing my education around my interest in marine life. It's for this reason that I’m majoring in Marine Biology with a minor in Chemistry. With this education, my goal is to become an Aquarist, and build my way up to becoming an ocean or aquarium diver. As a diver, I want to have the opportunity to study coral reefs, and create and implement conservation plans. In addition, I want to study sea turtles and ways to conserve their declining…

For my first biology test I received a grade that I am not proud of. To be completely honest the night before the test I attended a concert and didn’t get to sleep until two in the morning. This optical is defiantly something that I could have avoided. I should not have attended the concert, or at least I should have prepared myself weeks in advance knowing that I had a concert the night before. This is my second time taking the class and I expected better out of myself. I made the same mistake I did last year by not studying till the week of the test. Another obstacle was my interest, I am not interested in the topics we are discussing but as a student I need to ignore preference and work on doing my best. Most biology test is memory based…

Marine biology is more than the scientific study of marine life. Marine biology is the study of marine organisms, their behaviors, and interactions with the environment. Marine biologists study oceanography and the associated fields of chemical, physical, and geological oceanography. Marine biologists are also able to specialize in large aquatic animals, all the way down to microscopic and minuscule organisms. Anything else in between, marine biologists are able to study.…

The fact that 95% of our sea is unexplored has always fascinated me. We use water in everyday life and without it there would be no life on Earth, yet we know so little about it. Both my academic and personal life has developed my interest in marine biology.
