When I first looked at my grandma I looked like a cute baby who was crying for her mom. My grandma has always said that I look like my mom. When I was born I had blond hair like my mom, big blue eyes like my mom, and a mix between my mom and my dad’s nose. When I was learning how to talk I had a favorite saying until I was 5 and that saying was “wook at dat.” One of her favorite things about me is how I am able to remember things. She likes to say that doorways are portals and that whenever she walks through a portal she will forget something, and if she walks back into the room she left through the same portal/ door way she will remember it. Or she could just ask me what she

My maternal grandmother Shirley Rae Harrington grew up during World War Two. But despite the war, she lived a somewhat normal childhood. When she was young there were very few other children in the area to play with and her younger sister, Sissy, was paralyzed. So she often played by herself in a stream nearby. Her family also owned several horses, chickens, pigs and a billy goat. Surprisingly she didn't get into much trouble as a child, except once when her family was down in our properties Maryland. People were racing speedboats in the creek, so she asked a neighbor who her family knew if she could go. He said yes and took her in his own boat when they got back her parents were fine but Mimi was upset with her. Her first travel experience…

I’ve never wrote in a diary nor have a planned on it, but I feel that my experience should be shared with everyone. My name is Edith Goldberg. I was born 1928 in Teschenmoschel for most of my life which is a small village near Kaiserslautern, Germany. My family were farmers that lived in a small village of about 200 people. The village had a very small Jewish community… It used to be bigger, but over time people either had left or died. From what I remember I had a normal, happy childhood with my parents and sister. I remeber my family and I would be hay-making in the summer and tobogganing in the winter. My family always stuck to the Jewish traditions. Man, Those were the goodtimes. I also remembers a time that wasn’t all that good, which…

She drove us to her mother's old house, now an office with the original front facing window and old stone covering the outside walls, and told me about her mother taking her to the elementary school in Tuba City on the Hopi Reservation where she worked as a teacher. She explained how she found her interest in reading and learning through her mother's books in the classroom - and explained the "who, what, when, where, and why" of every question. She told of the five Babbitt brothers who founded Flagstaff, which Verkamp sister each married, which of the five brothers is my great-great-great grandfather - David Babbitt - why they came from Cincinnati, Ohio to Arizona, which of her mother's sisters stayed in Flagstaff, left, and where they went. She showed me her mother and father's lives through pictures, and learning the history of my hometown and asking about it was (and still is) an interesting subject I can learn, as well as wishing to learn further about the traditional school subjects than the little extent of material provided to me during elementary…

Per Reporter: “Marshall lives with his Unknown Grandmother. Marshall is intellectually disabled. On today, while out seeing my client Marshall, his grandmother became upset because after having a discussion about who should be the overseer of Marshall’s disability check. I stated to her that if she really wants to care for Marshall, it shouldn’t matter whose overseer of his check. Without warning, she suddenly jumped into her car and started backing up with force and an aggressive look on her face. I told Marshall to move to the side and I jumped in my car, backed up and left. I had to drive at high speeds to get away from her because she was chasing me in her car. I later called Marshall to check on him, he admitted that he felt as though…

I moved from Detroit, MI to Ypsilanti, MI, for a better living. It was December 29, 2008. I had just given birth to my daughter. My daughter was born at 9:45p.m, weighing 5lbs and 3ounces. I named my daughter Saphira Parthenia Franks. Saphira died at 36 weeks, due to still born. The doctor told me” Sometimes this happens without a reason and you will be able to have more children”. I already had my mind made up, that I would wait until I turn thirty to have another baby. I was heartbroken and disgusted with myself. I was already going insane from the deaths of my father in November 2006 and my grandma in July 2008. Therefore, I was not able to cope with their three deaths at once.…

My heart is pounding in my chest as I am in complete awe as I realize that finally she is coming. It is one of the most thrilling events that has ever happened to me in my entire life. I don’t think one can ever be completely ready for what I was about to endure as well as the pain my body was about to be put through. The pain begins to become more alarming as stronger waves of torment flows throughout my body down to the deepest core of my being. I have to say no matter how many books or classes I have taken, nothing could prepare me for what was about to happen next. It is not something that one could ever be mentally qualified for until it is actually happening. Fourteen hours of agonizing discomfort and yet we are still waiting for her to enter into this nonsensical, yet wonderful world. At that moment, I realize once she arrives she will be completely dependent on me.…
