I have been in many discourse communities where member share their ideas and what they have learned. Once I had a dream to become a professional dancer. I was introduced to dancing when I was six years of age, and I fell in love with dancing ever since. I used to watch Bollywood movies which is known for songs and dances and I was mesmerized by their out of the world choreography. They looked so lively, and it felt like they use the body movements to express the world in a very enticing way. I joined the dance class during my freshmen year thinking all I will have to learn is movements like Bollywood dances from the teacher. Although, high school dance was more like learning the movement terms in words, bringing it to real life in action and most of the time performing. For that to happen, I needed to be in a good shape with my classmates so I can receive their help but it was not like that in this case. Being an immigrant from Nepal with limited English was challenging

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

In the reading, “Composing for Recomposition: Rhetorical Velocity and Delivery” by Jim Ridolfo and Danielle Nicole Devoss, express the ideology of rhetorical delivery and rhetorical velocity digging deeper into the values of the terms in modern society. The authors define rhetorical delivery as a “remix culture” (Ridolfo and Devoss 516). That in today’s society, rhetorical delivery has gone further than just an oral side but has entered into an ethical and political aspect. The authors are trying to convey that rhetorical delivery has to grasp and engage with everyone in society, however, the concept might easy to achieve but still near impossible. At the same, it goes further in the political and ethical aspects by having societies voice their…

I feel that I am qualified to be an officer because I was a member, Vice-President, and then President of my high school’s volunteer club (Interact Club). I went to a small, Christian private school, and the club was student-lead with minimal help from our two faculty sponsors. The Interact Club was my greatest achievement in high school. Before my Secretary, and then Vice President and I came into office, even at our small school, many students, teachers and faculty were unaware of what Interact was and what we did in the community. We brought a new aura, publicity, worked exclusively with our Head of School, designed brand new t-shirts, brought in a new executive board, financial sponsors, and hosted our school’s very first talent show where…

My Socratic Seminar took place about a week ago on April 24. I always enjoy talking with my other English education majors because though we have lots of classes together we don’t often have many opportunities for open discussion between us. It was even better this time because we also had other language classes and journalism represented to add to our normal group of people. I was excited to see what knowledge they could bring to the table. Having read the questions beforehand, I was slightly nervous that we would actually find something to talk about. This class has been a slight struggle in just trying to differentiate between “teaching literacy,” which is something that all of the English students do all the time, and finding ways to “focus…

I'm writing this letter because after our meeting I have had plenty of time to digest, think and evaluate the questions asked, the answers given, and my outlook on it all. The biggest thing I believe stood out to me was my lack of experience. I understand that may be an issue for some, but I personally believe that is one of the biggest plus sides, to elaborate I think my fresh ideas my strong passion, faith in Christ and my desire for these children will push, drive, and motivate me more than any other person. I also understand that I will be dealing with culture, economics and flat out different types of kids as Hamlin's interim youth pastor but I honestly believe God has equipped me to deal with all forms of kids. Another thing that stood…

We have been doing it this “normal” way since humans could walk. Baby's first learning to walk don't walk backwards do they? No, they are biologically programmed to move forward. I wanted the breaking of my norm to be obvious. What better way than to walk backwards and go “against the crowd”.…

The biggest commitment that I have ever made so far was when I was in the high school, that commitment was challenging and difficult for me. It was graduating from the high school a high grades. After instantly closing my mouth and wondering why my thoughts blurted out to a complete stranger who had never talked with me before, a sudden realization struck me like a head on collision. Since when do people ask me for advice? All of a sudden, vivid images started going through my head, like the times when my peers would tease my way of speaking, yet they were also the same people who later asked my opinion on a subject. Times when it seemed as if I were isolated from the people around me in middle school, yet they always asked me for help for subjects they didn’t understand and sometimes tried their best in including me in conversations too. Finally, the colorful images of a growing student who decided to take vigorous courses that not every normal high school student could take. There no longer existed…
