Personal Narrative: My First Time To Hawaii
My first time to Hawaii went like this. The first 5 hours I was on the plane I was feeling extremely sick and tired and felt like throwing up. After all that torture we finally got off of the plane and tried to find our hotel. We got lost for about 30 minutes until we actually found it. After we got into our hotel, I noticed that they didn't have a refrigerator or a microwave, so every time we wanted to eat, we had to go buy some food. After we unpacked all of our stuff, we went out to the shopping area. My mom bought both my sister and I some expensive pearl necklaces with a gold chains. The sad part about this was that after about two weeks of buying it, it broke. This was only the first day.

On the second day we went swimming. We went

Several months ago, when High Island was going through a confusing stage. I sent my resume to Anahuac. The principal called me on Monday and wanted to meet with me today. I specifically told them that I was under contract with High Island. However, they offered me the job and wanted me to discuss the situation with you. I told them that I would meet with Mr. Gubbs on Monday and let them know as soon as possible.…

Though I hate to admit it, used to be more comfortable following directions than giving them myself. I grew up a shy girl with maybe one or two close friends. I followed the teachers’ directions, listened to my parents, looked after my sister, and remained diligent in my studies. This doesn’t seem so bad, however I was not satisfied with my personality. I was too timid, expressed no unique thoughts, and had almost no independence. This all changed when I was almost ten years old and entered 4-H, the West Hawaii 4-H organization which was geared towards community service and volunteer work to address the four H’s: head, hands, heart, and health.…

There’s no other place in the world where I feel the most at home than being at Long Beach Island. There you can smell the fresh, salty air of the ocean as the warm breeze brushes across your face. It is a place where the sand, sometimes chilled by the water or boiling hot up in the sand dunes, fiddles its way through your toes one by one sending chills down your spine with every step. Off in the distance you can hear the chiming of bells as the ice cream men call children of all ages to cool themselves off with a frozen treat. This is the place that all summer long, I am lucky to call home.…

This summer I went to Rhode Island with my dad. We took our two kayaks on our Toyota Echo to go kayaking in a few of the lakes near our beach house. We stacked the two kayaks on top of each other, as that was the only way we could fit them safely on to the car. Before the seven hour trip to Rhode Island, we bought a few pairs of ratchets to hold the kayaks down. Our biggest concern was that the kayaks would slip off of the car due to the high speeds of the highways and the wind pressures.…

I belong to a small island community, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. This small island in the Pacific Ocean is home to a United States military base where my parents work as government contractors. I attend the only high school with my small graduating class of 13. I have lived here for just over a year, but I have easily involved myself with the community and created relationships with fascinating people. This island is home to about 1,000 people; many move frequently and a rare few have spent most of their life here. I participate in my high school’s sports teams which play other adult teams as the island is mostly working adults. I have ridden my bike around every inch of the island that I am allowed and developed a hunger for adventure.…

One day I was swimming through the ocean in Hawaii. I was going to my house and all the sudden I found a purple puddle. I was very curious what it was. I swam over there to look at this purple puddle and all the sudden a shark hit me and I fell into it. Then I was all purple and I tried washing it but it didn’t come off. Now I am a purple fish that lives in Hawaii and smells like coconuts.…

The summer of 2014, my family and I went to Ocean City for an overnight stay. We arrived in Ocean City and checked into our hotel rooms. Then, we drove down to the beach. We listen to music, snapped pictures and ate delicious food. My oldest son was playing football and Frisby with his cousin. I spent my time near the water playing in the sand. I wrote the word baby in the sand and took a picture laying beside it. Out of nowhere, it became windy. The umbrella flew away multiple times. The sand was blowing all over the place. We watch the sunset and left the beach. We stopped for dinner and went back to our hotel. I was four months pregnant in this picture.…

My family lived on Orcas Island for ten years, and now I am free. The island, though beautiful, felt tiny and far away from everywhere important. A majority of my days in high school I willed myself through classes by filling notebooks with drawings of space stations and birds. The only two activities that I really enjoyed were Art Club, which I did for three years, and Yearbook Club, which I did for two. These activities were the only real sense of accomplishment during my time on the island. A terrible high school math experience set me up for a belief that I did not have the brains for math or science, and in junior and senior year of high school my online running start classes combined horribly with this lack of confidence in my academic…

When I applied for the Quinlan Ramble to Seattle my freshman year, I had no idea of what the trip would be like. I had no expectations, and honestly as a freshman I just thought it would be a great way of spending my first Spring Break in America. However, upon meeting the people I traveled with, I knew it wouldn’t just be another school trip. We connected from the very beginning, forming a strong bond. During the trip, we were all very dedicated to get an insider perspective of the real business world. Outstanding business professionals, probably the best ones in their industries, welcomed us in such a friendly manner. I’m confident enough to say that we learned things with these professionals that we would never had the chance to learn in…

It's hard to not know anything about me because I'm pretty much an open book. But if I had to think of something that most people wouldn't know about me it would be that I was born and raised in Hilo. All my life I lived in Hilo up until my freshman year when I moved to Kona. Right now I'm currently a senior attending Konawaena High School. With that being said, I lived on the Kona side for about 4 years now. The main reason for me moving to this side was because both my parents have jobs out here. My dad, being a manager had already been working out on this side as well as on the Hilo side. My mom on the other hand, got a job promotion that had to be taken in Kona.…
