Personal Narrative: My Experience At 4-H.
The thought of me beginning my college career and leaving my parents is starting to sink in. Right now, I am so bombarded with my high school senior schedule, two dual credit college classes, college applications, scholarship forms and endless preparation for exams. Thinking about leaving my comfort zone is getting closer, but because of 4-H I feel prepared.
At the young age of nine, I entered the amazing world of 4-H. I was a very shy little girl. My first experience in 4-H was a project show where I entered canned goods that my mother and I learned to make together. I earned lots of ribbons and could not wait till the next show. Then came the animal projects, my family and I live in the country so I could have picked any animal project but

4-H is looked at in high regards within society, but I’ll honestly admit that I had no idea what it was when I entered. I begrudgingly went to the meetings at the urging of my mom who looked at the overall picture and wanted to raise two well-rounded women who would be able…

Yough Intermediate Middle School, a comical and controlled environment. Waking up everyday to come to school is a nuisance. It worth every second of the day because of the amazing teachers, students, and staff. The curricular activities are as creative as a Picasso painting. The adventures I have gone on in Yough has taken me through life even more. The adventures have been vigorous, inferior, and patchy.…

4-H has been an important part of our family throughout my entire life. My dad has been on the Ida County Fair Board for over thirty years and my brother and I have spent a lot of family time helping at the fairgrounds throughout the years, as well as working with our family’s livestock and farming operation since we were very little. I remember when I was four years old, I would tag along with my mom to my brother’s 4-H meetings when he started in the 4th grade. I couldn’t wait until I could be old enough to be a “real” 4-H’er and join myself! I feel fortunate for the years of leadership experience in my 4-H club as a treasurer and vice president. Being a part of 4-H has exposed me to several opportunities to demonstrate my dedication, determination,…

At a young age, I waited on the benches for my mother to retrieve me from carpool. I observed my peers laughing together as they walked towards the gym for after-school sports. My mother, who soon arrived to find her kindergarten son sitting in solitude, scheduled numerous parent-teacher conferences. She would share her concerns while my teachers assured her that my "individuality" was what attracted friends to me. I had been a leader rather than a follower regardless of the opinion of others, and, to this day, that has remained static. I have evolved from that careless kindergarten leader, to an aspiring college graduate.…

The issue you tried to cover is really unique and good. When I was a child my siblings used to help me study mats, physics and chemistry. They always used to show me step by step and then, they let me practice with several similar questions. That helps me for my present knowledge. I remember there were other children’s whose parents will do their home works for them. For sure they used to get a better grade but I am not sure if it helped them. There for from my own experience it is better to guide them and let them to try and fail; since it won’t hurt them to fail instead it will teach…

On Thursday, September 15 at Cohasset Elementary school in Van Nuys, I worked at my practicum site for the first time in a Head Start class of three and four year olds. My goal for this first class was to become familiar with the children and the classroom routine. One of the first things I noticed was that all the children and the teachers are Hispanic and speak Spanish, although the class is mostly taught in English. I experienced a diversity issue between myself and the staff and children in the classroom. The main barrier I faced was the language. Some of the children spoke only English in class, others spoke a mixture of English and Spanish, and some spoke only in Spanish. Speaking some Spanish helped me, but the children spoke so softly…

My early literacy experience was not a big of a deal for me at an early age. When I was in school I always took a reading and writing course with a grain of salt, it was just one more class on my schedule. Literature did not really appeal to me in my early experience. I always think that why do I need to take a literature course in order for me to succeed in the future.…

I returned back from vacation this week and it was nice to see all the children’s smiling faces. The parent’s express how they missed me as well as their children. This makes me love my job even more. This week there was a two year old child who had a seizure at the center; this was scary for the children, staff, as well I. 911 had to be called out to the center. We all have had CPR and first aid training so we were comfortable with handling the case until the ambulance reached us. However, we were not so prepared when the child stopped breathing. It was the middle of the school year, and I had just moved into Duluth. I was begging my mother to put me back into public school. At the time I was being home-schooled but I hated it. So one day, my mom told me "since you want to go to public school so bad, I'll let you go soon." I was happy! I could finally make some new friends and go somewhere I wanted to go. Few days later, we went into the school I will be attending called Northview High School. We went to go get interviewed, but the lady that interviewed us was very rude. She was not hopeful or even encouraging. She told me and my mom that I was going to fail all my courses and will have to wait til the end of the school year. Basically, she wanted to hold me back. Who would have known how right she was. In the end, it worked out and I was able to attend Northview.…

Those of us who chose to go to college away from home are taking a huge risk and testing our ability to be away from our safety zone. Many teenagers don’t realize that it’s a whole new world and they may not be ready to embrace it all at once. Even I often find myself a bit overwhelmed by all the new things I must adapt to.…

In elementary school, I decided that I wanted to work with animals. My mom told me that Humane Society volunteers had to be 8 or older, so I waited. Soon after my 8th birthday, after looking forward to the opportunity for what felt like many years, I was finally able to attend classes in dog walking, dog bathing, and cat house monitoring. Of those, I took to bathing the dogs because it had the least rules. I don't remember whether I chose to work with my mom or I was too young to volunteer without her, but both of us would drive out to Honolulu every weekend to work for a few hours.…
